Begich was a good senator. I doubt he'll ever get elected statewide in Alaska again. Too bad.

He came far closer than he probably should've. I think if Bill Walker turns out to be a one term and off situation, then Begich has a good shot.

Congrats to Senator-elect Sullivan. Add another one to my Senate map. Just missed NC at this point with LA pending.

I would say I want him to win against Murkowski, but I really want the other Dan Sullivan to win in 2016. For y'know, the comedy value, or something.

Come back and run for president on a stupidly low budget 20 years after being relevant?

Sigh. Begich was another one that, with the exception of one ad, ran an almost perfect campaign.

So, that puts Republicans at 53. The final number is most likely going to be 54 after Louisiana runoff.

Wonderful news!

Hopefully Parnell can still pull it out in the gubernatorial contest.

Maybe Mark Begich could run against Rep. Don Young in 2016?  It might be a bit of a step down for him, but for him to run against (and hopefully defeat) that old fossil would be regarded as a public service.

This would be cool considering the history with Don Young and Mark Begich's father, Nick Begich. The son of Nick Begich could finish off Don Young once and for all.

Doubt Begich would want that -- he knows the first really good Republican year would do away with him. If Young does lose at some point, which I strongly doubt, it'll have to be fantastic Democratic year. 2008 would've been it, but Palin saved Young.

At this point, would Dems be better off running against Young or having Young retire and running for an open seat? Young barely beating 50% in a year where the majority of the GOP Caucus got over 60% in their races is notable.

Maybe only a Begich can defeat Don Young. He's just got to make sure not to mysteriously disappear.

Size 53 would be appropriate under the circumstances.
