Holding Durbin to an 11 point win without any national help was quite an accomplishment, to be honest.

That could be partially attributed to the national environment, as well as the Governor's race.

Yes, this, and the fact that Oberweis is a self-funder and Dick Durbin doesn't exactly inspire anybody to vote.

In another district, Hassert's district,  Foster beat Oberweis, and then lost it in 2010. If he can beat Oberweis and Biggert, he can beat Kirk. I want Madigan and Bustos and Foster to run.

I'm not saying that Foster could not beat Kirk, but Bustos is the better candidate.

I highly doubt Madigan runs.

I think Bustos would be the strongest candidate, for reasons Mr. Illini provided.

That's what primaries are for. Last time we annoited Ginnoulias instead of having a real primary, not a fake one, and we lost. Hopefully this time is different.

That's not even true - David Hoffman was this close to beating Giannolous

Are you calling Oberweis a competent candidate? LOL.

I'm kinda sympathetic to Oberweis, since he had the nomination basically stolen from him and given to an insane person from Maryland in 2004, but the fact remains that this is his electoral record: a lost Senate primary in 2002, a lost Senate primary in 2004 (though considering the winner dropped out, he kind of deserved the nomination, but realistically he would still've lost the general election to Obama), a lost gubernatorial primary in 2006, a lost special House race in early 2008, a lost House race in 2008, a successful state Senate campaign in 2012, and then a lost Senate race in 2014. The man has waged six campaigns above the state Senate level and none have been successful.

You should get to know about her. She'll be a great candidate if she runs.

Quigley who is also close to Durbin will be running by then. This race is enticing due to the fact that there is no frontrunner and CLINTON will be running.

One of the things Mark Kirk must have going for him is "recognition" from IL voters.  Do enough voters know who he is and what he stands for? If so, he's got a far better shot to pull 5-7% of the Democrats from the top of the ticket to go his way and possibly win a full term. If not though, he's going to have a far tougher time.  It's going to be tough either way given the turnout in a presidential year in blue IL.

Bustos still looking at this race, despite the Duckworth buzz as of late.

Duckworth is taking a "serious look" at the race

Well, if she is taking a look at it, then Lisa Madigan isn't gonna run.

Ms. Madigan is a good woman who will be avenging The People's Pat in 2018 by giving Mr. Rauner a good thrashing!

Don't assume that Rauner is going to be some terrible governor. See what happens to the Illinois Economy in say, a year, and then make your judgement.

Bustos would be a great person to have in the Senate, especially for her opposition to free trade agreements. Problem is that I also want Kirk Tongue It would be nice if Durbin doesn't run in 2020 and she could just take his seat; then I'd be very happy (wishful thinking, I know).

Considering Durbin was considered a possible retirement for 2014, I won't be at all surprised if he retires in 2020.

Interestingly, I learned in a RollCall article that Cheri Bustos babysat Durbin's kids as a teenager.

On the note of Madigan, she is probably not going to run until her father retires from his position as Speaker. Though she probably prefers to be Governor and stay in Illinois.

I think Lisa Madigan is a more likely candidate for governor in 2018.

I think Lisa Madigan is a more likely candidate for governor in 2018.

Just like Chris Christie missed his chance to run for president in 2012, she is passing up a sure winnable race.

Paul Vallas, Francheis, as well as Tom Dart are looking for Governor in 2018, and the last female to run for governor and failed was Topinka.  She has a Mike Madigan nepotism problem, and Southern Illinois don't like either Madigans and frown on that realization, if she decides to run for governor.

Even if Rauner got unemployment down to like 1%, he would be no match for Lisa "Bulldozer" Madigan.

Rep. Robin Kelly "doing her due diligence to see if there is a path" to the Senate

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news-chicago/7/71/314849/rep-robin-kelly-mulling-senate-run

I've been a Kelly fan for a while now. She and Bustos are the best potential candidates at this point in my opinion.

I'd imagine this makes Bustos less likely to run for Senate:
