Why are NOM even bothering with American politics at this point? Surely their attentions are best served elsewhere, like in whipping up homophobic hysteria in sub-Saharan Africa?

I think Portman could struggle in his re-election campaign because of this. Ohio is still a fairly socially conservative state a lot of Rs could just leave the Senate race blank.

Well, Ohio is one of the few non-safe R states where the Democrat might not support SSM.  That would make for a very interesting campaign.
