Apparently, these are the ten most popular fruits in the US.

Haha, no. But most of the things I cook/prepare have lemon in them somewhere. Also I look putting slices of lemon in my water, though sometimes I'll put in a few chunks of frozen mango instead.

That sounds awesome.  Gotta try that.

Pineapple or strawberry.

Of course, the best fruit is pomegranate.

Of those, probably cherries, particularly Rainiers. I prefer blueberries and nectarines over all of them, though.

I don't like pineapple, watermelon, or lemons.

Agreed, tho they do need to be fresh picked local berries and not green picked berries shipped in from California or Florida.  Cherries I like best of the fruits that aren't so variable in their quality.

I'm surprised peaches and plums aren't on the list. They're better than all of these. Perfectly sized and delicious. I like cherries a lot, but they're only available during the summer and having to spit out a lot of seeds is annoying. Perhaps if the scientists could produce a cherry the size of a peach, we would have a fairer contest. Speaking of which, I have no idea why science can make everything else exist year round, but not cherries. Does anybody know? Oranges are really good too. Gonna have to disagree with Ernest about the local strawberry thing. When I lived in Louisiana, they made a big damn deal about the strawberries they grew there. The ones from California are so much better! Sweeter and more flavorful. Also, all the people choosing watermelon are crazy. Watermelons are heavy, barely palatable, and messy.

Cherries, apples, bananas

I like anything cherry flavored.  Lemon is alse delicious as a flavor agent.

Of these choices, mango.  But it would probably only come in #3 on my list.

As for those hypothetical top two, I'm surprised at the lack of blueberry here, but not surprised at all by the lack of grapefruit, the most polarizing citrus.

A lot depends on the growing conditions, and to be honest, Louisiana doesn't have what I would consider good strawberry growing conditions.  Still the main difference is between strawberries picked when they are ripe and those picked when they are green and then made to ripen on demand.  Maybe in Louisiana you're close enough to get California berries that were picked when ripe. That's certainly not the case here in South Carolina.
