I cannot. We didn't eat much Asian cuisine growing up in semi-rural Ohio (our idea of exotic was Mexican).

So I never learned properly. Now when I end up in a nice Asian restaurant, or hell, even just a sushi train, I fumble around like I don't even know how to use to my own hands, let alone chopsticks. I can feel the steely glares of those around me judging my ineptitude and scoffing.

But, I mean, at least offer the option of a fork and knife, even if you don't have them freely displayed. I shouldn't have to resort to using my hands like some kind of savage.

Discuss.

Yes (Jewish).

Chopsticks are better for some foods.  Forks and knives are better for some foods.  Spoons are better for some foods.  Your fingers are better for some foods.  Obviously, you wouldn't eat sushi with a knife and fork or yogurt with chopsticks.

Yes.  Though i prefer the scooping, stabbing, and cutting ability of the fork.  The fork is more versatile for my eating habits.

Yes, I learned by using them to eat California rolls.

California rolls are just about the perfect size and consistency for eating with chopsticks.

I manage with solid foods, but if it is something noodle-based like Pho, I kind of have trouble lol

Not really no, not that it matters, a fork works just as good.

Yeah, though once I get to the rice I struggle and often resort to a fork lol.

With Chinatown not too far away, with all the noodle shops and restaurants in the downtown alone...oh yes,yes I can.

Although like typing,I never did get the hang of the "proper" way and came up with my own way, but it works and no one looks at me for it.

With the last grains of rice, I resort to tilting the plate and shoving it down.

Nope, and the Taiwanese boyfriend really gets a kick out of it. Tongue Loves to goad me into asking for a fork... sigh.

Probably since I was 4 or 5. We went to a lot of Chinese restaurants when I was a child.

Of course I can.  My mother is Japanese, and about ten years of my life was spent overseas, including about four years in Japan.  It comes naturally to me.

Of course. If they're available, I use them (especially with Japanese food).

Yes, albeit awkwardly.

I only use them for sushi though -- no other foods have that shame associated with using a fork.

No, and tbh, I never really tried. Knife, fork, and spoon pretty much cover everything, I think. I also tend toward messes, so if I tried to eat with two sticks I'd end up wearing whatever I was supposed to be eating.
