Not that I disagree with some of what is said in the article, I highly doubt they will find a viable conservative that would put up any type of fight against Baker, and its too early to start spewing this crap anyways.

Meh, they said the same thing about Scott Brown. Just hot air.

Still, what power does Baker really have to become a "liberal"? Can't the legislature override his vetoes anyway?

They have every right to voice their opposition, if he's being too moderate, then they should be preparing to find someone to represent their values better. The Republican Party is the conservative party, and they should act as such.

In other words, some of MAGOP already hankering for Governor Healey or something come 2019. Gotcha.

We get you want the GOP to lose, but obviously Baker is the most conservative possible governor you could elect in MA.

The point is, you can't really fault these people for wanting a candidate that fits their views.

Because that went SO well for them this year. Their Tea Party challenge to Baker got the whole MA GOP involved in a bribing scandal and after letting the Tea Party guy stay on the ballot, still lost in a landslide to Baker.

The Massachusetts Republican party is actually much better than other states' Republican parties in regards to not shooting themselves in the foot in terms of candidate quality. Baker will be completely safe in the primary in 2018.

The Mass GOP has enough machinery in place to make a primary challenge to a party-backed candidate very difficult. There's a convention to attend and minimum vote requirements.

For crying out loud, he isn't even governor yet!  Please give him a chance first.

Exactly, it's ridiculous. I do like what was said about improving their brand and forming a better grassroots operation in the state though.

Why the hell do they think this is a good idea?  I agree with what was said above, Baker is pretty obviously the most conservative governor MA is going to get.

I think Baker will flop and Healey or Moulton will defeat him in 2018.

Idiocy. Even Baker (and even against deeply flawed Coakley) was barely moderate enough to win even in good for Republican party 2014. 2018 will hardly be better, and if Republicans nominate a conservative (even of pragmatic type, not tea partier..) - Democrats will have good (and last) laugh.

We have seen a different model. Mitt Romney ran as a moderate technocrat, but then governed as a conservative and a partisan Republican. Charlie Baker ran as a moderate technocrat, and by all accounts that's exactly how he plans to govern.

If the "real Republican party" wants to coalesce around Curt Schilling or Brian Camenker to run, they're welcome to try.

Which Tea Party icon are they going to run? Scott Brown? Bill Weld? God knows that the MA GOP is a hot bed of great conservative icons who make Ted Cruz look like a RINO Roll Eyes
