Who are the most left wing individuals you could imagine being serious presidential candidate in 2020?

The title says "elected president," if you think they could be nominated by a major party, include them.

"Conceivably" is extremely broad. If Republicans won in 2016 and the economy collapsed right before the election in 2020, even Kucinich would probably win if he was the Democratic nominee.

Essentially, this is asking who the most left-wing person who could conceivably win the Democratic nomination in either 2016 or 2020 is.

Bill De Blasio, and Elizabeth Warren fit the bill.

There are some individuals whose political beliefs I really don't know. For example, I have no clue whether Julian Castro is more liberal or moderate than President Obama.

Correct. Feel free to suggest out there names. Kucinich would be too old by 2020 mostly likely, but surely there are similar types out there.

Hillary Clinton. Sorry true leftists.

Edit: misread at 2016. If hillary loses, then I suppose Warren or even maybe Schweitzer could win 2020

America is going to elect a then 81-year old openly socialist President in 2020? I just don't see that happening. Sanders can put in a Perot-level 3rd party showing, but he's not going to win it.

As for the OP, Elizabeth Warren.

Warren would be 71, which feels too old to me, but I suppose is basically the same age Clinton will be in 2016.

Let's try to think of some less well known leftist politicians who might have a shot in the right climate? Surely there are some out-there mayors (other than de Blasio) or congressmen who might be able to pull it off in 2020?

Republicans win in 2016 and have an absolutley disastrous one term presidency. A major depression occurs due to some wall street banking crisis due to heavy de regulation due to fraud and government bailouts. The President and administration are directly involved. So Elizabeth Warren jumps in and wins in a massive landslide. People are skeptical of Warren's age and significantly liberal ideology but believe she is most appropriately the best individual to handle this crisis, and therefor wins in a FDR/Reganesque landslide.)
That's the  best case scenario
This could work with any other progressive I think as well.

If they can win a primary, they could end up winning a General Election under the right circumstances.

The question of the thread is about the best-case scenario for liberals in 2020, rather than what we can expect to happen.

They can't win the primary; not many (any?) mayors have been nominated for president, and a 80+ balding socialist is not going to be the Democratic nominee.

A socialist could be the Democrat nominee.  And I see people sharing quotes from Bernie Sanders on Facebook all the time.
