In addition to Carson business manager Armstrong Williams, best known for having secretly taken a $250,000 payment from the Bush administration to promote No Child Left Behind, Carson has a number of unorthodox choices in his political orbit:

That campaign will not make it past the third major primary.

What exactly is Carson's appeal, I mean I would think Ted Cruz would have the far-right locked up, is it because of his "outsider" status?

I'd imagine Carson would be siphoning mainly from Cruz's base.

Between Williams and Robinson, Carson 2016 is becoming a make-work program for black Republicans.  Who's next?  Oldiesfreak?

But I would think they would find Cruz more viable or polished than a some-dude who decided that he wants to play president

I don't know.  You'll have to take it up with the voters of New Hampshire.  Carson outperforms Cruz among all demographic groups in that poll, with the exception of self-described "very conservative" voters, who split evenly between Carson and Cruz.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Maybe Carson "proves they're not racist" and they think he can win a chunk of the black vote?

Will his cast of characters make a TV ad as terrific as Herman Cain?

Of course he won't, but I predict he'll lead in the polls at least once.

People prefer Carson to Cruz for much of the same reason the Republican primary voters once preferred Bachmann to Cain (or maybe the flameout happened in the other order; I can't remember): He hasn't embarrassed himself on the national stage yet.

As for why he has good credentials, being raised in inner city Detroit to become the head of Johns Hopkins' department of pediatric neurosurgery is no small feat. His credentials are incredibly impressive as is his life story. It probably won't translate to politics though, at least if what we've seen thus far is any predictor. But most casual political observers haven't seen that yet. They're still awed by his resume.

Cruz as a Senator and former Bush/ Perry staffer is more of a poltical insider.

He already is tied for the lead in some polls, I don't understand how. He has no administrative (I know about his medical achievements but c'mon) or political experience. I'm surprised the average Republican primary voter knows who he is.

The average one probably doesn't. But when you have a clown car so big that you can lead with only 15%...

Eh, every Conservative page on Facebook has comments about how he is the only one who can save us. Jeb is worse than Hillary. Christie is the devil. But we can forgive Carson's views on gun control because he will save us. Literally every single page. Some NRA die-hards disagree, but it is wildly positive.

Obviously he likely won't last, but he is quite well known by potential voters. My mom even knows who he is because a right wing doctor is obsessed with him.

I don't really mind him, I just won't vote for him, and I think his campaign will collapse after Iowa, maybe even before the Iowa caucuses.

I guess it is a good thing he is splitting up the votes for Cruz, Huckabee, and other terrible candidates though.
