And be out of politics for six years? Ask George Allen how that worked out.

Murkowski vs Begich = Begich loses
Tea Party Rethuglican vs Begich = Begich could win
Tea Party Rethuglican vs Begich vs Murkowski running as an Indpendent or write-in = Begich could win

But yeah, Murkowski has to be primaried.

Murkowski is the people's Senator.  She has proven that by pulling off a victory from the grassroots.

I say hurrah for Murkowski!

We need more like her in the Senate.

I think he was responding to the idea of Begich running against Sullivan in 2020.

You do realize that few politicians ever "get out of politics", even if they loose re-election or retire?

Sincerely, I'd rather have Murkowski. She's one of the handful of sane Republicans left in Congress (either chambers), and she genuinely seems to enjoy her job. I *like* her on Facebook and enjoy seeing all of her posts from events in Alaska. However, a vote for her is a vote for Mitch McConnell, so if it looks like Democrats have a chance of reclaiming the Senate, I'd strategically want Begich despite his DINOism.

Defeating Murkowski would be VERY VERY tough.

Honestly, Begich wasn't really much of a DINO at all.

As others have said, Begich has a decent chance of winning if Murkowski loses the primary, but if she doesn't he's Travis Childers 2.0 (and also what Joe Donnelly would've been if Lugar won the primary). Is he willing to take that risk?

Yeah. I used to think he was a DINO to, but you know, he gets the job done. He voted with leadership over 90% of the time and he believes in progressive taxation, voted for the stimulus, Obamacare, ENDA and other things. I mean so what if he's pro-gun? He grew up in Alaska learning how to shoot them, so I can respect that it's a cultural thing for him. He also should have done better standing up to the oil companies, though again, it's Alaska.

Point is, he would be a thousand times better than Murkowski, who moderate or not votes for and votes most of the time with McConnell and Cornyn who have a top priority of teaming up with Boehner to give Obama a living hell rather than do something meaningful.

Begich has nothing to lose by running, and his chances are better here then a long-shot chance at defeating Young. I would be one to gamble on the chances Murkowski is primaried. He can't beat Murkowski one on one, but man could he do it in a Presidential environment against Joe Miller.

I could see him becoming a lobbyist unfortunately.

He should run for the House in 2016 and 2018 and Senate in 2020. He'd probably have a chance of knocking out Young.
