This is a decent investment - Most likely Murkowski falls in a primary, and if he faces Joe Miller he'd probably win even as the challenger, and even if he does face Murkowski, he probably loses by a respectable enough margin to where he doesn't sink whoever is facing Young.

Yes, Mark Begich is major FF and needs to return to Senate.

Hopefully Murkowski beats him in a rout.

Its worth a shot, Democrats need to make as many opportunities for themselves as possible, even if they don't all pan out.

I don't see why he shouldn't take his chances.

Has a Senator even gone into the House after leaving the upper house?

^ Can't think of any off the top of my head, but Mike DeWine has done pretty well as OH AG.

Claude Pepper is the most notable one I can think of.

Let's hope he goes through with it. Begich was, IMO, the best of the red state dem Senators. Someone like that shouldn't go to waste.

He'd be better off taking on Young who's clearly damaged goods at this point, Murkowski would be much more difficult to beat because she and him have the same pool of voters.

Young is Congressman for life, running for Senate is the smart play.

Murkowski has terrible ratings with her own party. It'd be pretty amazing to see her win a primary with even worse ratings than she had in 2010. The only way she wins re-election is she runs as an independent.

Young is damaged goods...at "this" point? He has been damaged goods for a long time now and Alaska keeps sending him back. There's a reason for that. If Begich wants that seat, it'll need to be open.

With a half decent challenger, Young would be the Lee Terry of 2016.

That's a completely wrong observation. Young has survived for so many years because he's a pork barreler. His insane behavior has gotten him in trouble so many times, and yet he's survived every challenge.

Ethan Berkowitz, Sean Parnell, and John Devens would like a word.

Begich ought to try and take out Young instead. It would be an easier race on the whole.

Has there ever been a U.S. Senator who has then elected to the U.S. House?
