Awful. Good thing Obama will do the right thing and veto this nonsense.

Also good to know that there are literally zero moderate pro-environment Republicans left in the House these days.

I don't think he's ever been for or against it, but I think he'll be happy to veto anything the Republicans pass.

Yeah, Rattlesnake, it's highly likely this project will never be finished even if approved.  This is why I support it. Important lesson that we pass this obvious failure.

I'm glad Obama believes this project needs a thorough environmental review, but what is the holdup on getting an answer from the State Dept?

.........

simply the fact that the administration doesn't want to build the thing in order to placate environmentalists. It's all political. Or 90% political. It's been 6 years and the DoS actually HAS reviewed it quite a bit. I don't think that anyone but the usual Obama idolators actually believes that the "holdup" has been due to some DoS snafu.

Once upon a time there was an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck!"

“We'll see,” the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful!”

“We'll see."

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy, "How terrible!"

“We'll see."

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.

“We'll see."

Why bothering? Nobody in their right minds will build a pipeline right now.

Haha.  Excellent.  That's very Eastern, by the way.  Are you Chinese, or are your parents?

If the Republicans would come to their senses and realize that the government isn't their own personal allowance that they can just spend on frivolous projects like this one, maybe they would have a shot at being taken seriously.

Doesn't look like they are ready for that.

I honestly don't care that much if they build the Keystone XL pipeline or not.

If approved, the government wouldn't be paying for it, just allowing it to be built (at least in my understanding). It's true they received subsidies from the government of Alberta, but I don't think they would get any from the Feds.

Anyway, I think it should be approved, but the Republican obsession it with it (touting it as one of their main policies as if approving a single project qualifies as a valid plan for solving unemployment) is dumb. The environmentalist opposition is equally dumb since all of the alternative methods of transport would produce greater emissions.

Excellent news - although it is interesting that Harry Reid wants to bring this up now after blocking a vote for years on end. Must be because of a certain runoff race in Louisiana. This is the House's 9th vote on Keystone.
