Currently, it's a Freedom State: https://plus.google.com/103320655754019011706/posts/LDwPgq8wofG

We won Tulsa too. The state does better here than it does in voting!

Freedom state.  OKC and Tulsa are good cities, and I admire Oklahomans' faith, though their politics is definitely too far to the right.

Let me tell y'all a story. In high school, I was in some academic competition, and the teacher drove us (the team; me and four other guys) up to Tulsa, I believe, for the weekend to partake in the competition. Now the drive from Austin to Tulsa is a long and desolate one. For hours you drive along with no sight of civilization, surrounded on all sides by dreary flatness. And then you cross the border from the great state of Texas, and this suffocating feeling of dread and despair washes over you. You're drowning in it. Suddenly, the bleak flatness in the rearview mirror doesn't seem so bad. Hell, you'd even settle for goddamn f[inks]ing Dallas at this point. Anywhere but Oklahoma.

Oklahoma is the worst place I have ever visited in my entire life. I would rather die than be forced to return to that god-forsaken wasteland of a state.

So did I luck out by not being able to go to the big event there and instead going to Iowa this weekend then?

Probably the worst state I've been to. Even Tulsa is absolute junk. Landing at the airport I could tell I was landing in hell. I can only imagine how horrible it must be in the boonies. I pity anyone and everyone who lives in that hellhole.

Texas has sheer size, population, and influence.  People from Oklahoma don't act like they epitomize all that is American in the same why that Texans do, either.

The entire stack of states from Texas up to North Dakota is an endless barrier separating the majority of the American population who live to the east from the majestic splendor of the Mountain West. Oklahoma and its brethren constitute one of the cruelest of God's practical jokes.

It's funny. My dad is from Oklahoma and I've never visited but he's told me the same thing. There's just a strange desperate feeling that washes over you when you cross the border.  The only times I've ever met my OK extended family is when they visit here or meet us in Texas.

Second most horrible state (sane).

Btw, why do so many users have a green OK avatar? I can't remember that Oklahoma is famous for its Green Party...

Taxes is a factor for sure, but Wyoming, Louisiana, Mississippi are ranked low, so its not a trivial red state/blue state dichotomy.

Plenty of strongly Republican states are ranked low, yeah, but practically no strongly Democratic states are ranked high.
