Voting HT on instinct, but what actually is it (his Marian theology, not Marian theology in general)?

Very Protestant, also seems to ignore or not notice the Magnificat.

I doubt it's really a set theology. The more I've gotten to know Bushie the more I doubt he actually bible studies as much as he says. Like most things in his life, he probably skims it and knows just enough to get by. His Marian answer was equivalent to teacher calling on the kid who didn't do the reading assignment.

The fewer supernatural beliefs, the better. I congratulate him on skipping the Mary superstitions.

Horrible, of course. Mary is one of the best, most exemplary figures in Christian history.

Ugh, your priorities are as horrible as they are unsurprising.

I'm not comfortable with Catholic Marian theology at all, and even I vote HT for Bushie's extremely childish and oversimplification.

I should point out perhaps my biggest issue with the Immaculate Conception is you can't accept it without accepting that the Original Sin theology applies to everyone else, which I'm not willing to do.

Your Mary fetish is kinda disturbing.  But then its quite typical for Catholics to be smug about their pagan substitute worship.

I suppose you pray to Saints, elevating them to the level of God... Hell, myou probably even light candles to idolatrous images of them in your church.  Cuz God was vague when it came to idol worship...

Now watch the catholics get huffy and indignant and holier than thou.

I say if you're going to be Christian, then stick to the message of Jesus.

That's not a particularly accurate summary of Catholic marian theology or view of the saints, but I agree with the underlying idea.

The history of the church and its elevation of Mary over time to suit the pagans they were converting has corrupted Christianity in the eyes of many protestants.

The idea that Mary never sinned was made up by the same power hungry old men that thought you should pay a sum to get Old Uncle Chet out of purgatory.

It never ceases to amaze me how non-Catholics know more about my religion than I do, and I haven't missed church in the last 30 months so I'm not particularly non-practicing.

I don't understand how people can spar over seemingly insignificant details. The big picture is the same, and the message is the same!
I think its more Nathans implication that treating Mary as less important than he does is misogyny.

One hardly has to have a Mariology as High as mine to think that Bushie's views on Mary--that her personality and desires were essentially irrelevant to why God chose her and that she essentially functioned as an incubator--are misogynistic. I certainly don't think BRTD's Mariology is misogynistic, and it's in substance probably about as Low as Bushie's.

You literally know nothing of Mary's personality or desires.  You only know what other men wrote about her.

You can assume God picked her because she was faithful and a virgin... But its not like you have access to her memoirs.

I know quite a bit about Mary as presented as a figure in the Gospels. I happen to believe that the Gospels are more or less true accounts. I don't understand what precisely makes this difficult to distinguish from claiming conventional biographical knowledge, or why it seems to piss you off so much.

It's pretty hard to take the portrayal of Mary in the Gospels and then come to the type of conclusions Bushie was saying in the other thread. This is not simply a matter of whether you believe Marian venerations are appropriate or anything like that.

Please don't equate what I am saying to defense of Bushies infantile version of Christianity.

I am simply trying to give you the same treatment as you give Bushie, Nathan.  That is... Smug, dismissive contempt.

I have no doubt that you are well versed in the gospels.  So am I.  So is Bushie.

So, in the end its all coming down to "Im smarter and better at God than you"
That pisses me off.

I'm not trying to give Bushie smug, dismissive contempt. I'm trying to give him blistering, infuriated contempt.

And it will make zero difference and only cause you stress and anxiety.  Just let him have his faith, flawed or not.

I wouldn't have created this thread if I didn't have reason to be personally offended. Other aspects of Bushie's theology are awful too, but they're not offensive in the same way.
