Presumably this means he won't be running for the Oval Office, especially with those pesky new House rules in effect.

I assume this would help Governor Walker, but is there anyone else that Ryan's "exit" would benefit?

Ryan's exit helps Walker the most, but it also helps the other "establishment" candidates he would've been vote splitting with (Jeb, Christie, possibly Romney).

Well at least we shouldn't see his name on the December Republican presidential nomination thread.....

The only way Ryan runs is if the GOP field is weak. If he doesn't run, he may run for president in the 2020's.

This cracked me up.

Anyway, yeah, looks like Ryan likely won't be running. His exit certainly helps Walker, slightly helps establishment candidates like Christie.

It's not necessarily an exit. Perry was Chairman of the RGA.

That said, a race without Ryan is better for Portman (another midwestern budget wonk), Walker, Rubio and Jindal.

It's not necessarily an exit. Perry was Chairman of the RGA.

But Ways and Means Chair is a job that Ryan has coveted for some time, and the new House GOP rules suggest that he'll have to give up the chairmanship if he runs for higher office.

Of course, he'll string out his presidential decision for another six months or so, but it's not looking like he's going to pull the trigger.

Yeah, I think Ryan wants to be Speaker more than he does President.

And I don't blame him.
