Feel free to express all your thoughts here. I can't say I like it because I've never been there, so neutral.

Have you been to Oklahoma?! Roll Eyes To say that Oklahoma is better than NYC and Nantucket should be a criminal offense.

To say I despise Oklahoma would be the world's largest understatement. Even ISIS ranks higher than Oklahoma.

Neutral. I'd lean towards like more than dislike.

Love it, absolutely.  Beaver's Bend.  Broken Bow.  Ouachita National Forest.  Had some good times there in days long gone.  First time I ever docked an oyster was at Beaver's Bend, one of the best undercarriage waxings I've experienced was in Broken Bow, and let's not even get started on the delights of Muskogee.

Moreover, I mastered the art of sailing a 24-foot Marconi fractional rig across Lake Texoma, solo, running the jib, spinnaker, and mainsail.  Well, I mastered the art on my uncle's rig in Lake Superior, just north of Duluth, but I've perfected it on Lake Texoma.  Tac ho, boys!

Also, there's the musical.  Rogers and Hammerstein.  How gay is that?  Broadway, off-Broadway, or way off Broadway, you can't really go wrong with Oklahoma!

Bushie and his exploits, of course, is icing on the cake.  I just don't see how Oklahoma isn't winning here.  Then again, there are many things that I don't understand about this forum (rainbows, cats, and unicorns come to mind.)  Oklahoma is real, and it's beautiful.  You guys really ought to experience it.

Option 1.

Most third world failed states at least have an excuse. What is Oklahoma's?

And endless wasteland of awfulness and despair only broken up by when you run into your neighborhood Braum's.

Option 6 is hyperbole, but in the United States?

It has the worst weather. The worst landscape. The worst people. The worst politics.

Never been there, but I've had a romantic image of it ever since reading John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath in middle school, which is only reinforced by songs like "Okie from Muskogee." When I was 11, the deadliest attack by domestic terrorists in history targeted the Federal Alfred P. Murrah building in Oklahoma City, flattening a school or day care. More recently it has given us the distinguished senior Senator from Massachusetts. You never know what to expect from Oklahoma.

...what part of the lyrics to "Okie from Muskogee" gives you an idealized view of Oklahoma?  Is it the part about holdin' hands and pitchin' woo? Tongue

You would imagine wrong, unless you like going to bars and having some redneck step up to you for no goddamn reason except you look like a "city boy." And in that case I hope you know how to fight, because you gonna learn real quick. Wink

Eh, toward the lower end of the choices. Went through it a few years back (2009, I think).

It's flat, you see oil derricks, cows, and the biggest McDonald's allegedly in the world is there - it literally spans the interstate. That's really about it. OKC and Norman are alright, though.

I like Oklahoma. Too socially conservative for me, but I admire Oklahomans faith, even though I am not religous. The state is a great state. Oklahoma City's boon to relevance has been incredible. FS.

My only experience there was driving I-44 to I-40 across the state on a cross-country roadtrip, so I have no real basis to judge it.  That said, I don't really like the Great Plains or the South and Oklahoma unfortunately combines those two regions.

I will just say this though.  Most American cities are basically the same.  If you have a job and a good group of friends who you like, anywhere in American can be a great place to live.  It's so silly to fixate on these regional differences.   You can find your people in any American city.  And in fact, some of the smartest people I've ever met grew up in Oklahoma.
