Montana has now legalized gay marriage.

"On November 19, a federal court struck down Montana's  same-sex marriage ban, allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry immediately."

And South Carolina.

"A federal judge on November 12 affirmed the Fourth Circuit Court's ruling. The decision was put on hold until November 20, and the Fourth Circuit Court refused to extend the stay."

To be fair, since progressives are losing on so many issues, it's fun to see on an issue where the progressive side is clearly winning for a change.

You don't think on social matters that society inevitably moves in a progressive direction?  Abortion, marriage, race, religion, sex, etc.?

It has to be disappointing that while republicans could milk the gay issue to the max while the public was on their side, the issue has never helped democrats substantially even though public opinion has flipped.

About time. With this ruling, the west has become the second census region to have gay marriage legal in every state.

What constitutes progress can change.  At one time prohibition was one of the more progressive issues out there and then its repeal became the cause célèbre for progressives.

It has to be disappointing that while republicans could milk the gay issue to the max while the public was on their side, the issue has never helped democrats substantially even though public opinion has flipped.

Except it hasn't flipped.  It's still midflip and in areas where the GOP holds dominance, opinion is still fairly solidly anti-SSM or at best neutral.

The same goes for any issue. Republicans can relentlessly milk an issue that has 50.01% support to destroy Democrats, but Democrats fail to get traction even on issues with 90% support.
