Good to know that the Democrats will be taking back the Nevada State Legislature in 2016.
You mean just like how the Democrats took back the North Carolina State Legislature this year?

1)Nevada isn't gerrymandered.

2)Nobody said that Democrats would take back the North Carolina legislature this year.

But there wasn't even a backlash.  The GOP even gained a seat in the NC Senate this year.

In a year where Michael Grimm solidly won an Obama district, it didn't really matter how bad you were as long as you had that R next to your name.

They lost three in the state assembly though.

He's also stated that he owns a Confederate battle flag, and that gays are disproportionally prone to engaging in child abuse. RIP Nevada Republicans 2016.

Non-apology apology after Sandoval condemned his remarks.

From a GOP activist I follow on Twitter: Confederate writings from Hansen. "... Am extremely proud of the “lost cause” and the attempts to preserve the original States Rights position of the U.S. Constitution. In spite of what most believe, the War Between the States was not about slavery per se, but about whether or not a State had the right to leave the Union.."

There's a lot more.

You know, it's kind of hard to call this guy an aberration and "just a random crazy that managed to slip through" when his own conference elected him as speaker.

Did his own conference know about this? There may be a move to kick him out as Speaker before the January session and replace him with another Republican. Sandoval has too much riding on this and the best shot to push through his agenda.

Sandoval probably has the political capital to make him sit down (when you can win 70% in a swing state, you get leeway to do a lot of things). Here's hoping he uses it. Hansen's rhetoric is needlessly incendiary and highly counterproductive.

This goes beyond mere stupidity. The man probably has cost himself the speakership. They're just too incendiary and damaging in a swing state for him to stay on as speaker.

I have no problem with people defending the military heritage of the Confederacy. The Confederate armed forces were on the whole the most gentlemanly enemies that the US ever faced in wartime. There were some blatant exceptions, and they paid for their crimes.

If someone wants to honor Confederate war dead as ancestors or near-ancestors, then so be it.

The political heritage of the Confederacy is a different matter. The Confederacy may have dressed its defense of slavery in noble-sounding words, but noble-sounding words cannot hide that after the Emancipation Proclamation, the Confederacy was fighting only for slavery. It was not fighting for ownership of land.

In view of the way in which the Union dealt with slavery in Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri -- buying the freedom of slaves -- I am increasingly convinced that Abraham Lincoln was intent on imitating the British way of emancipating slaves, a way that proved much more practical than the Civil War.

The disconnect between the Atlas Forum and who constitutes the Republican party is mind boggling. I get that there is a Moderate Hero tendency to presume both parties must be, on average, fairly reasonable, but we have threads like this one almost every day. There is something very wrong with Republicans. It doesn't help the nation to pretend like it isn't so.

Another letter was found from last year: ultra-homophobia, comparing homosexuality to bestiality, child abuse and prostitution.

How is the Nevada GOP so divided that a guy like Sandoval can be elected Governor but a guy like Ira Hansen can be speaker.

We've finally reached the tipping point when the GOP politicians are too crazy for the GOP voters.

I've seen nothing in his statements to indicate that he "doesn't like" blacks.
