One year after the Geneva agreement (interim deal of November 2013), the deadline to reach a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program is approaching.

The 10th and last round of discussions between the P5+1 (sometimes called E3+3 in Europe) group of countries and Iran started a few days ago in Vienna, and the self-imposed deadline to reach an agreement is Monday. Foreign ministers of the countries involved are all arriving today in Austria for the last days of talks.

Diplomats do not seem very optimistic on the chances of reaching a comprehensive agreement by Monday.

Ugh, Iran was basically the only bright spot of an otherwise miserable world situation. Hopefully they come to some agreement.

The Obama administration should point out to Iran that the next President will probably be a crazy Kyl-Lieberman supporter. Almost all of the Republicans, and over half of the Democrats, including Hillary voted for it. Biden, Kerry, and Hagel all voted nay. Obama also opposed it.

The German foreign minister says that "a deal has never been closer, but Iran has to move".

The American foreign minister says that "there are still huge differences".

The Austrian foreign minister says that" there's still a long way to go."

Steinmeier (Germany) & Kerry (USA)

Kurz (Austria) & Zarif (Iran)

I think the idea at this point is to make an agreement to make an agreement.

Hopefully there's still a chance Barack can finally earn his Peace Prize.

John Kerry (USA) talking on the phone @ some park in Vienna:

Kerry also went to the local Christmas Market to buy some presents and drink Glühwein.

That looks like rejected concept art for an alternative rock band.

The talks are now over. No deal agreed on. Deadline extended to Mid-2015.
