With the announcement by former Virginia Senator Jim Webb that he is launching an exploratory committee for a possible Presidential run in 2016, who would be the best VP pick for him?

Please discuss.

Warren's too old. Gillibrand is better.

Probably a younger female Senator. Senators seem to be more comfortable talking about national issues, and can also help a former one-term Senator navigate Washington.

Cantwell, Klobuchar or Gilibrand fit the bill. He apparently got along well with McCaskill. Heitkamp may be a bit green. Warren's too polarizing.

Cory Booker seems like a good match in some ways (new young Senator with executive experience) but Webb is twice-divorced with a much younger wife. A bachelor is probably not the best running mate.

Agreed. I'd say Klobuchar (solid liberal credentials without being polarizing, represents a "swing" state, would inevitably draw favorable comparisons to a "Democratic Sarah Palin who's actually smart!").

Bill Nelson, Sherrod Brown, Maggie Hassan or Jeanne Shaheen.

Webb would need to swing a FL/OH/NH (which he'd probably fail in doing so) and all these picks (except Brown) play well in all three states.

What about a bachelorette (since you've mentioned Maria Cantwell)?

O'Malley, Vilsack, or Gillibrand.

I didn't know that about her.

A bachelorette would still help with female voters, since it would still be a ticket with the first female major-party presidential nominee. Klobuchar and Gilibrand would likely be better choices.

Gillibrand is the correct answer for anyone who isn't Clinton.

That's an interesting choice.

He's young and liberal, which can help with the base.

His record is just enough that he doesn't appear too inexperienced, but there isn't anything distracting that would scare centrist voters.

He was Chair of a Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet, which helps establish him as a policy expert on something important.

He apparently has an identical twin brother, Steve, so that would come in handy if the Vice President had to be in two places at the same time.

However, that could become very confusing for the Secret Service.

Yeah, when I said that I wasn't really joking. He's actually very experienced (IMO).

Schatz could be good because of environmental issues, which Webb is weak on. He'll have to change his positions, so choosing someone with a strong environmental record like Schatz would show that he's serious about his changes.

Gillibrand, Schatz or De Blasio.

Someone tight with Progressives all the way around since Webb is only going to appeal to them on economic populism.

An odd thing about a Webb/ Schatz ticket: It would be two white guys with Asian wives.
