To the right of Clinton, especially on some social issues, I would suppose.

Hillary Clinton is too narcissistic to have any position on the political spectrum.

Is "Jim Webb" running for president not the definition of narcissism?

No, anyone who runs against Hillary Clinton is automatically a flawless and benevolent God.

But seriously, anyone who runs for president is a narcissist to some degree.

There is nothing inherently wrong with narcissism.

Other then gun rights I cant really think of a conceivable issue he's to her right on. He talks about poverty and seems to be an economic populist. He was also in favor of prison reform while in the senate. Social issues? Pretty sure he's pro-choice and pro-gay marriage. He supports making affirmative action based on class instead of race which a lot of people on the left (not elected Democrats) do also including myself. It goes to show how distorted and shallow our political spectrum has become that Webb would be seen as to Hillary's right.

FYI, I don't support him. I just think it's bizarre that a majority of people here would classify him as to the right.

To her left on economic issues, to her right on social issues - for the most part.

According to On the Issues, based on his positions Webb is a moderate liberal populist. In Hillary's case, it says that she's a hard-core liberal. So obviously, Webb's to the RIGHT of Clinton.

In the 1960s Webb would be seen as a solid New Deal Liberal. I also don't see how he's socially conservative.

In the 1960s Webb would be seen as a solid New Deal Liberal. I also don't see how he's socially conservative.

He's to the right of Hillary on guns, climate change, and immigration. In fact, he was even to the right of Dubya on immigration. I also don't ever recall him coming out in favor of gay marriage, and he voted against repealing DADT the first time it came up for a vote. Aside from being pro-choice, he's basically a classic blue dog before the blue dogs became conservative on literally every issue. On the other hand, he's distinctly to Hillary's left on foreign policy and trade. He also "talks more populist", but I don't remember Webb ever being an anti Wall Street crusader in 2007-2013, so that's more of a difference in style than anything else.

Well, at least Jim Webb tries to represent the whole state of Virginia and not just NoVA which is obviously pro-Obama.

@Hawk: Right, a vote on a system proposed by the once farthest right reaches is too partisanly left Tongue

Or more likely, the votes against PPACA were the partisan ones.

I don't see Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby ever doing anything for African Americans "to represent the whole state of Alabama".

I saw Thad Cochran reach out to them this past Senate race.

Represent =/= reach out for votes against a raging neo-Confederate

Yeah, that's why I used Alabama. Tongue The point is, a Senator trying to "represent the whole state" is the exception rather than the rule. It's also extremely difficult to do so when you're mostly pidgeonholed into up or down votes.

Alabama and Mississippi have just reverted to historical tradition of having one party rule. It's just the opposite party now.
