King's Presidency was not exactly an Era of Good Feelings. While Republicans had not won the Presidency since Thomas Jefferson, they remained a viable opposition party, continuing to have a wide base of support in the South and West. However, many of their voters objected to the King Caucus process of choosing a nominee, feeling that the voters instead should be able to pick their candidate. It was on this basis that General Andrew Jackson, most famous for disobeying President King's orders and invading Florida, decided to launch a populist independent candidacy against the official nominee, Senator William Crawford. House Speaker Henry Clay also opportunistically launched an independent bid for the Oval Office as an exponent of Westward expansion.

For the Federalists, Secretary of State John Quincy Adams would serve as the standard bearer. Many High Federalists' skepticism of the man, who was perceived as too conciliatory to the opposition during the Jefferson administration, had worn off as he focused his efforts on diplomacy for the last nine years, proving crucial to averting war with and gaining concessions from France, Great Britain, and Spain throughout his tenure.

Since this election will almost certainly be decided by the House, the key to victory would appear to be courting the man who takes last place. Clay and Adams appear to be the most ideologically cohesive despite being from opposite parties, and thus would be greatly benefited if one of them were to take fourth place.

Jackson/Crawford. Good job with the series so far, by the way!

Thank you! It is a bit strange how the multipliers have changed though. Whereas the Republicans did much better than IRL in ElectionsGuy's series, here they have pretty much matched their IRL performance, hence why the Federalists are still viable.

General Andrew Jackson (Independent Republican) 75, 43.1%
Senator William Crawford (Republican) 83, 21.1%
Secretary of State John Quincy Adams (Federalist) 53, 18.1%
Speaker Henry Clay (Independent Republican) 24, 17.7%

As expected, the regional appeal of each of the candidates resulted in an election being sent to the House of Representatives. The delegations there largely went as their respective states had voted, except with Ohio going for Crawford and Missouri, Kentucky, and Louisiana going for Adams, resulting in Adams getting 9 delegations, Jackson getting 8 delegations, and Crawford getting 7 delegations. This deadlock continued for dozens of ballots before Senator-elect Martin Van Buren, seeing his preferred candidate stuck in third place, made a strategic maneuver to elect the man he perceived to be the lesser of two evils. The New York delegation flipped from Crawford to Jackson, and on subsequent ballots Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Illinois followed suit.
