Columbus for two reasons:
- It has never hosted a Democratic convention before while NYC has hosted it 5 times and Philly twice.  It's always good to visit new places.
- The Democrats need Ohio.  They need Pennsylvania too but I don't think doing it in Philadelphia will help much.

NYC.

Wouldn't the DNC actually be in the Barclay's Center and not Madison Square Garden?  That would mean the DNC is being held in Brooklyn where neither party has ever had a political convention.  And, as one of our local elected official said in praise of our bid for the DNC, "We have swag on lockdown.”

And, I really don't buy this idea that putting a political convention in a state amount to an electoral boost in that state.  The undecided voters in that state aren't going to attend the convention after all.  They'll watch it on TV if at all.  If you live in that specific city, maybe you'll get more local news coverage, but you'll also get inconvenienced by traffic and such related to the convention.  It would might just disrupt your field organizing in the middle of an election season.

Philly, the boost in GOTV the city would get could be crucial especially for the Senate race there.

Columbus, though I'm disappointed Phoenix was chucked out, that is what I would've voted.

Columbus

I hear it's a great city, and it's much bigger than people on the coasts realize. It has more people than Boston or Baltimore. Or, somewhat sadly, more than St. Louis and Pittsburgh combined

And of course, Ohio is one of the 3 states in the trifecta that is essential to winning (the others being PA and FL.

NYC and Philadelphia have been the hosts way too often. I thought Charlotte and Denver were great choices the last two times. Phoenix would have been good too.

Reckon the money has gotta be on the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia now seems to have the best shot at landing the DNC; Philly hasn't hosted the DNC since 1948, so long overdue. Columbus isn't going to get it, as if you don't remember, there's a city called Cleveland and the GOP has that. It'd have gone with Columbus if such wasn't the case; NYC is on the list, because it made the list and the Dems are gonna win NYC no matter what, so the DNC going to Philly is happening dudes - Philly cheese steaks and all that, also the Dems are thinking Chris Christie or not. So watch this space.

Does anyone vote for a party's candidates based on where the convention is hosted?

It's really about grabbing the attention of undecideds and those less likely to actually vote. The bump a party can get from hosting a convention in a particular state is probably miniscule, but in a state like Ohio, miniscule might be all that you need.
