Yes, that's right, someone that nobody except political junkies is aware of the existence of gets to give a SOTU Response:

Ernst giving the official Republican response renders this close to redundant.

Reminds me of there being a TP candidate in Nevada in 2010 despite Angle being the Republican nominee.

So the establishment managed to out-crazy the Tea Party candidate - even when he managed to be horrifically insensitive and stupid.

The real question is: who's giving the official Rand Paul SOTU response this year?

I don't think that was insensitive, he just made a stupid mistake. He was well-intentioned, its was one of those embarrassing gaffes. Just like "stand up, chuck!".

Yeah, this is the only reason why I know who the guy is. Let's see how bad it's received!

You don't see Congresspeople mistaking white officials for Europeans for a reason.

An incident like this has never happened before with white OR nonwhite officials. It was a stupid mistake, but I agree with EG that it really isn't insensitive.

Here's his response.

It's about what you'd expect. He doesn't actually respond like the others, just "offers a different vision." Clawson appears to have a good bit of folksy-ness, a lot more tolerable than Joni imo.

He seems to have a smarmy smile and a case of the McConnell cheeks.
