Ron Paul received 2,107,066 votes in the 2012 primary elections.
Will his son do better than him?

I'm not so sure.  Didn't Ron stay in until the very end?  If Rand drops out before Super Tuesday, then I think he'll fall short.

Exactly. Not forgetting that Rand Paul, like his father, is a caucus candidate. He will do very well in caucuses, but they don't provide as many votes as the primaries, where Rand will perform below-average.

At the latest when the Kentucky primary is about to happen he will have to drop out in order not to squander his U.S. Senate seat.
