Nigh-universally HPs. Should never have any weapons, be given ridiculously oversight, prosecuted extremely aggressively, etc.

I agree with the last two,  but with no weapons they can't do their jobs.

Still HP as whole, but there are individual FF's here and there.

Arresting someone for smoking pot is more important than black people's lives?

It is possible to both respect and appreciate the police, and also believe that police brutality and abuse of power are serious problems.

I believe in the idea of government and the idea of police, but also the idea that they should be held responsible for their actions.

Sol seems to have hit a hyperbolic switch that he/she can't get out of.

Voted HP in general.

Horrible people.  Most of them are uneducated thugs who were beaten up at school.  There are so many incidents of cops using their authority to kill, rape or do other illegal things that I find it hard to believe there are people who still defend them.  I think anyone who joins the police should have a psychology degree and they shouldn't be allowed to hold a gun unless they're chasing a dangerous criminal.
But we're living in a country with huge income inequality, insanely expensive education, a long history of terrible race relations and more guns than any other civilized country, that we're inevitably stuck with a bunch of thugs that can do whatever the hell they want.  F*** them.  I would call them pigs, but pigs never harmed anyone.

ETA:  I would like to add that I have only met two cops in my life that were decent human beings.  One was a woman, and the other one a black guy.

Have the potential to be FF's, but are held back by pointless escalation of force and estrangement from the communities they purport to represent.

American cops rely too much on their guns. There hasn't been a fatal incident involving a British cop for over 2 years.

I think professions should be added to the list of opinion threads we can't make. I know the news has been bad lately but the overreaction here is ridiculous.

Clearly American police are something different to Australia's. FFs from my experience.

People that have a knee jerk hatred of cops are worse than cops.  "cops" is much too broad to narrowed down to FF/HP.  It's not like they are trial lawyers, Catholic clergy or fans of Nickleback.
