I've made little secret of my support for underdog Kayyem in the Dem primary. My question for all of y'all is would she have defeated Baker and won the governors race earlier this month?

Between options one and two, I chose one.

In lieu of a poll answer that perfectly fits what you think would have happened, can you give us a percentage?

My guess would have been Kayyem 55% / Baker 45%

I think any Democrat was an underdog against Baker. His favorability rating was sky high.

Baker won by less than 2 points in a wave year against literally the worst candidate MA Dems could have picked. I'm pretty sure just about anyone else could have pulled off a squeaker, regardless of Baker's likability.

It would be interesting to see a non-Coakley nominee against Baker. I'm sure they would be favored, but Baker ran a great campaign and, to be fair, Coakley did far better this time around than she did against Scott Brown.

Yeah, people seem to forget that Coakley made no major mistakes this time.

Lean Kayyem by at most, two points. Regardless of how Coakley did, she's possibly the least exciting candidate to the base.

Only Coakley could have blown this. Baker was a good candidate, but this is Massachusetts.

I'm not sure that someone who failed to stand out in a primary with Coakley and two elderly men would have done well in a General Election.

An ideological amateur like Kayyem or Berwick would have done worse than Coakley.

I bet Dems are pissed now that Capuano didn't run.

In this year, with the type of campaign Baker ran, only Capuano would clearly have beaten Baker.

Frankly, out of those who ran Coakley was in fact the best bet against Baker. Perhaps she would have even won if she didn't campaign so "safely."

An excitement wasn't what doomed Coakley. Boston turned out. Baker's constant campaigning in urban areas just reduced the margins just enough.

People tend to forget Massachusetts, while very Democratic on federal level, has a history of picking Republican Governors in Baker mold.

I would say she'd lose by a sufficient margin since she was polling well below Coakley in pre-election polls - and that was before everyone realized Baker was an outstanding candidate Smiley.
