Conservative people seem to be very suspicious of everything and therefore unable to laugh at a joke unless they know in advance that the joke is not on them, so I agree to some extent.  You will never see a conservative Keith Olbermann who makes fun of himself all the time.
But to be honest most satire isn't particularly funny.
