Why is everyone so certain that Boxer will retire?  I think she'd wait for Feinstein to go in 2018 so that way she gets to enjoy a few years of being the Golden State's senior senator.

To be fair, the Maryland GOP didn't have a bench for the 2014 governor's race either.

Yeah but people went with that logic for Tom Harkin as well. Some people don't really care if they get to be senior Senator or not.

FWIW, Roger Wicker claims that no Republican Senator will retire in 2016.

Mikulski said she's running in that Hill article on retirements. SF Chronicle reported Boxer's likely retirement back in September.

Mikulski will run again. She's made it clear and is trying to get a state Democratic Party Chair that will be basically her adjunct. She's also called herself the titular leader of the Democratic Party in here, which Speaker Busch and PPT Miller might disapprove of.

I think that's a poor choice because of her age and the fact a Republican Governor would appoint her replacement if she had to resign through her next term. But she'll win again, probably, given the Presidential turnout and the state's blue colors.

She has no known health issues, she should be fine.

She's 80 years old. She'll be 86 by the time her term is up in 2022. It's the same issue in Kansas and Mississippi; elderly senators are more likely to resign in midterm than younger ones.

We already know Boxer is retiring.

I suspect McCain will retire, since he's getting pretty old and his health is declining.  I seem to remember him saying in 2010 that this would be his last term, too.  Leahy has been around for so long that I'm fairly certain he's gone after the next election.  Ditto for Grassley, although I could see him making one more run.

McCain has all but declared, he just partially purged the AZGOP and replaced TP with his own loyalists. Leahy and Grassley have repeatedly said they'll run.

Sources?

And about McCain, doing that doesn't mean that he's running again.  Honestly, I hope he doesn't because he's toast if he does.

Grassley will stay because he hopes to be PPT in 2021.

I'm glad she's retiring. She'll be replaced by another Democrat, but its hard to be worse than her.

Is Boozman still having health issues? Otherwise I wouldn't really peg him as a one termer. Maybe two or three.

Joe Manchin will retire, so WVA isn't a safe G O P pickup in 2018, and Goodwin will be his replacement.
