The Great Eastern War

Belligerents:

Hapsburg Austria, Bohemia, and Hungary
-Accompanied by loyal Holy Roman Empire States
Kingdom of Spain
     - Accompanied by Colonies
Russian Empire

vs.

The Ottoman Empire
-Accompanied by the Principalities of Buda, Transylvania, Wallachia, Moldavia
-Accompanied by the Khanate of Crimea

Rules for Wars:

1. War moves are to be sent by PM

2. 1 war turn=1 turn for the rest of the game

3. Same time limit for turns, 72 hours

4. This thread is for results, statements, propaganda, etc.

5. This thread may also be used by outside powers to declare their intervention in this war

I think that pretty much sums it up. If confused about how this looks in action, look to Lumine's two or three war threads for examples of how this should work.

The Edict of Bratislava:

We, Ferdinand I, King of Hungary and bearer of Saint Stephan's Crown, order before the Estates of the Kingdom of Hungary, the following: Following the borders settled at the Treaty of Navygarad, the Kingdom of Hungary shall be divided into three parts, subordinated to the High Court of Hungary and the King of Hungary. The first of these parts shall be Upper Hungary, which shall be composed of the lands currently under control of the King of Hungary, and subordinated directly to the King. The second of these parts shall be the principality of Lower Hungary, composed of the lands currently in control of the principality of Buda. The third part shall be the current principality of Transylvania.
The noblemen swearing loyalty to the King of Hungary shall convene to elect their prince themselves, and they shall be answerable first to their elected prince, and then to the King.

Be it resolved so,
x Ferdinand I, King of Hungary, Bearer of Saint Stephan's Crown

We invite the good lords of Hungary to swear loyalty to their King, to free them from their pagan overlords and return to the protection of lands of good Christain faith. Once they swear their loyalty to us, as their brothers in Western Hungary did, they shall be able to once again exercise freely their good Christian faith, and they shall be able to elect themselves their own princes and lords, and excercise their will in the Estates of Hungary, in Buda.

The Tsardom of Russia

As Tzar of Russia, it is my duty to protect the Russian people from all who would do us harm.  The Khan of Sibir has recently threatened war should Russians continue to settle lands that justly belong to this Tzardom and continue our expansion to the shores of the Pacific.  This so-called Khan shall soon discover that Russia does not cower in fear of threats from him or any other man.  Let it be known that not only shall we continue our eastward expansion, but that he will face the full wrath of the Russian Tzardom should he attempt to harm a single settler.  The journey to the Pacific shall continue with or without the Khan's cooperation!  The death of a single Russian settler or native who has converted to the Orthodoxy shall be treated as an act of war!

Just as a Tzar must protect the Russian people, so to must he defend Russia against outside enemies and protect the lands falling within the true boundaries of the Russian Tzardom.  The lands known as the Crimean Khanate are among those which can be rightfully considered a part of the Russian Tzardom despite their occupation by external foes.  In light of this fact, I issue this declaration of war upon the Crimean Khanate.  Furthermore, the Ottoman Empire has threatened war against the Tzardom unless we withdraw from the Khanate of Crimea.  However, the Ottomans already shown that war was always their aim with their aggression in the Caucuses.  If it is war they want, I shall oblige them.  I hereby issue this declaration of war upon the Ottoman Empire until such time as it renounces all claims to the lands within the Crimean Peninsula, allows Russian trade ships to pass unmolested through the Dardanelles and other waters under its control within the European continent, and withdraws its support for the Khan of Crimea.

The Muscovy barbarians have been offered peace and have rejected it. The Sublime Porte has no choice but to declare a state of war on the Tsardom of Russia.

In addition, I declare the expedition into the Caucasus over. We may try again in the future.

Turn 2 Results:

Ottoman Empire:
Your realm was initially strongly in support of the war and the attempt on your life only has served to motivate your people even further. While Buda is still under contention, the people there have broke heavily in favor of you there (in part due to the assassination attempt as well as the Austrian pillaging and raping of Hungarian lands). You hve sustained no major losses thus far, although some of your satellites (Buda, Crimea) could soon collapse, assuming other nations take the correct moves over the coming months.

Austria/Holy Roman Empire: The Austrian people stand fully behind you Emperor, although other subjects do not share their zeal. In Bohemia a group of Lutherans declared a "League of Neutrality" (some suspect Ottoman involvement in forming and funding the group) and support has quickly grown  throughout the region. The people there state that the war is an Austrian War, not a Bohemian one.

The Protestants in the Diet have joined with the Bohemians in the League of Neutrality (which threatens rebellion and leaving the Empire should you keep pushing the people to fight) especially the Dukes of Brandenburg and Pomerania. They are dangerous, although their lack of support should not be fatal yet as Bohemia, the Palatine (one of your few Protestant supporters), Lorraine, and several archbishops all have sent you men.

Kingdom of Spain: The people of Spain support your war, as it is against the Turks, one of the greatest foes of Catholicism, although the support in the Netherlands could be descried as lukewarm at best (this is partially why part of the provinces have joined England, as you will see in the end turn summary). Tax revenues are up in much of the realm, and you have won back some of the support you lost with the Edict of Toleration.

Russian Empire: At first the people of Russia were bewildered by the attack on Crimea, especially after so many years of peace with the Turks, some even questioned your authority. After your flaying of the Boyars alive however, few have questioned your authority, and instead fear for their lives. How long they will be willing to be quiet and supportive, especially with the difficulty the Empire is having in Crimea, remains to be seen.

Military Results:

Russian Invasion of Crimea: Slight Russian Victory

Russian troops have finally entered the actual peninsula of Crimea, although fighting continues and they have been unable to completely secure the land, capture the Khan, or even reach Ottoman lands held there yet.

Austrian Invasion of Buda
: Slight Austrian Victory

Despite Ottoman attempts to repel Imperial forces back into Austria from Bosnia and Buda, they have continued to march towards Buda and slightly further into Bosnia. The city of Buda itself is a city under siege, with Austrian cannons and men stationed around it, shelling it and waiting for surrender from the people of the city, who have stubbornly refused and grown to dislike the Austrians at their door.

Ottoman Invasion of Bohemia:
Large Ottoman Victory

The Emperor was unable to convince the people of Bohemia to get fully behind his war effort, partially due to Ottoman efforts to convince the people to remain neutral, and as such the subsequent Ottoman attempt to assault Bohemia was surprisingly successful, with Jannisaries on the tail of Imperial troops fleeing back towards Bohemia, which is relatively undefended.

Ottoman Invasion of Tunis: Moderate Ottoman Victory

The city of Tunis rebelled upon seeing Ottoman armies approaching, with the Spanish troops garrisoned there roughly expelled, although the Ottoman troops have taken some attrition due to the conditions of Tunisia.

Ottoman Invasion of Tripoli:
Moderate Spanish Victory

Despite efforts by the Muslims within Tripoli to revolt, the Spanish troops maintained order and have since been besieged by Ottoman troops. That being said, the Ottomans are losing more man than the besieged Spanish due to a lack of resources and supplies.

Spanish Invasion of Djerba: Moderate Spanish Victory

The Ottoman troops at Djerba were caught completely unprepared when the Spanish navy launched a full assault upon the island, seizing it with small losses. That being said, the locals strongly oppose them and maintaining the fleet in the area seems like a logistic nightmare, as the food of the island can only support so many people.

Very interesting results, I'm still surprised how much they vary.

The Treaty of Yevpatoria:

The Khanate of Crimea, the Sublime Port, and the Russian Tzardom hereby declare all hostilities between our respective nations to be at an end with the following conditions:

I. The Tzardom of Russia and the Sublime Port shall take no further military actions against each other in The Great Eastern War and the Treaty of Yevpatoria shall be regarded as a both a peace treaty and a non-aggression pact between the Russian Tzardom and the Sublime Port.

II. The entirety of the Khanate of Crimea shall henceforth be a part of the Russian Tzardom and the Sublime Port shall recognize Russian claims to these lands.

III. The Sublime Port shall cede to the Russian Tzardom all Ottoman lands on the Crimean Peninsula.

IV. The Russian Tzardom recognizes the Sublime Port's claim to the uncivilized region of the Caucuses currently under neither nation's control directly north of Iran and south of the Russian Tzardom.*

V. The Sublime Port shall allow any and all Russian trade ships to travel through the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus Strait unmolested.  Russian naval ships shall not be granted passage through these straits unless Moscow and Constantinople have either entered a military alliance at some future date or are fighting a common enemy during a future war.

VI. All current trade restrictions between the Russian Tzardom and the Sublime Port are lifted.

*OOC: Just to clarify for everyone else, IV refers to that white patch that appears on the Europe map.
