This has enough votes to fail, senators have 24 hours to change their votes.

Alright, the purpose of this bill is to repeal arbitrary energy usage requirements that forcibly reduce the living standards of Atlasians and wreck technologies that have improved the lives of millions, liberated women, and generally contributed to civilized progress - thus devolving society and reducing Man to to a more primitive state.

A good example is the washing machine, a brilliant device which has provided the common man with clean clothes and spared the housewife from hours of toil. Unfortunately, this marvelous machine was targeted by the Department of Energy, which imposed energy efficiency and water usage regulations requiring washing machines to use less water and energy. The result? Dirtier clothes and more expensive washers. Millions had their standard of living reduced because regulatory bureaucrats though it necessary to make them suffer.

Another example is the dishwasher, another boon to the common man and the housewife. Unfortunately, it too was assaulted by the Department of Energy when it imposed (surprise) energy efficiency and water usage regulations on the poor dishwasher. Federal bureaucrats had already made Atlasian dishes dirtier when they banned the use of phosphorus in detergents, but these have surely worsened the problem while increasing the cost of the appliances.

As for the concerns about the environment, how much of Atlasian electricity is even generated via fossil fuels at this point? I doubt this would impact Atlasian emissions to such a degree that it would seriously effects the climate, so even if you buy into the idea that increased levels of atmospheric CO2 will create Tuvalu-like conditions (a belief there's little evidence for, but that's an entirely different argument) that most likely isn't a problem for Atlasia since our methods of electrical generation differ considerably from those of the real-life US. Moreover, this bill would actually reduce electricity consumption in some respects since people would have to wash their clothes multiple time to rid them of filth.

Where are you on developing alternative energy technologies?

Polnut, you claim that test after test supports your argument, yet you cite no actual data, while the article I linked to provides testing from Consumer Reports. I'm not saying that Consumer Reports is infallible, but you can't claim to have a wealth of evidence on your side when the onyl actual evidence in this thread has been presented by me (unless you count Bacon King's anecdote).

Where are you getting that figure for coal-powered electrical generation? I'm talking about Atlasia, not the real-life United States.
