Charles I as my ancestor was in charge of killing him Smiley

The French Revolution was pretty violent, as was the Russian Revolution, and both were pretty important to changing the course of history, so this is a tough call.

I have to go with the Romanovs, personally. Machine-gunning a family after a group photo session is pretty hardcore, while beheading was/is just too cliche. It's nice to switch it up every now and then.

Of all the regicides of English monarchs, you chose Charles I?  How dull.  I'd have gone with Edward II.  Having a red hot poker shoved up your butt is definitely a way to go.

Quite the Eurocentrism there. No Faisal II of Iraq?

I've always been fond of the story of what happened to the caliph al-Musta'sim when Hulagu Khan sacked Baghdad in 1258. Due to the Mongol taboo against spilling royal blood they wrapped him in a carpet and used horses to trample him to death. Hard to come up with a more picturesque end to a monarchy.

The Nepalese Royal massacre has got to be one of the more ... intriguing regicides of all time.

Historically speaking, the Romanov...er...removal...made a pretty huge impact on the modern world, so I voted for that one.

Max of Mexico deserved it the most, I guess. I would have voted for Charles I, but I am descended from the Earls of Northampton and they fought for him, so you know Tongue.

Despite the lack of historicity of this particular regicide, the death of Servius Tullius strikes me as a candidate for this list. Thrown down the steps of the Senate House into the street before being run over by a chariot driven by his own daughter.

At least the centuries of inbreeding provides a fairly good excuse for you if someone ever points out how much of a dunce you are.

As very suggestively depicted in Maurice Druon's The Accursed Kings.

Yes they was all terrible. But I guess I would choose Charles I by default, simply because the after effect of his murder was the least terrible (okay the after effect of Maximillian murder was also relative minor, but he's the only person on this list, who was fundamental a good person).

I received a report about this thread. Yes, killing to effect change is not my cup of tea, absent the most unusual circumstances, but opinions that are not outside the terms of use on this site, no matter how otherwise offensive or uncomfortable to some, is what the public square is all about. So I took no action.

This post however is a bit beyond the line - as a personal attack. Perhaps you might want to revise, in which event I shall delete my post?

Although there are probably other hereditary tyrants in history who have deserved it more, Maximilian I seems the most deserving of this list. While the other three probably committed more than their fair share of crimes during their respective rules (good monarchs are not usually subject to violent revolution), I dislike the idea of being on the same side as Levellers, Jacobins, or Bolsheviks.
