Ugh, I know it would have passed anyway, but nay. Section 2.3 was a very good idea.

I'm okay with the amendment, but I'm just not so comfortable with 1.2., the provision that the Republic should give back land to Native Americans... I'm just not sure if that's even doable by now...

There are some BIG problems with 1.4. While, obviously, the operations of Government should reflect the nation in its make up. I'm not sure the language required, would continue to support the intention of this section.

I mean, what is the definition of 'local area'? Federal juries to be selected based on those proportions? OK - but what if you have a black person accused of a crime in an all-white area. Surely that wouldn't deliver what is intended. Um... and how much land is to be handed back to Native Atlasians?

There's a lot of very good ideas in this Bill, but a TON of stuff that is unworkable, unrealistic and at best problematic.

Also, I f***ing hate the term 'heteronormative' - it's a sociological wank term and I won't vote for anything containing it, it is actually used primarily in a derogatory fashion anyway.

My view - we're tinkering with language - how about we cut the crap, find the key elements we think are workable and manageable, not based on aspiration and outline them.

Could I recommend 1.1 and 1.2 to be reduced to a more symbolic purpose or focus on the apology of Section 5? I just don't think the reparations and the land restitution are truly workable, and frankly it's likely to just create a major headache for the Departments of State and Interior in the hopes that whoever holds the position at the time will just come up with a scheme in short periods of time.

Yeah I believe so too, Sections 1.1 and 1.2 would really be hard to fulfil...

If you believe as such, offer an amendment to alter or remove them.

I agree that land restitution is not really practical (or possible), but reparations are doable and I will vote against any amendment that removes that section.

Restitution maybe, but restitution of the present value of lands and resources taken? So anybody want to put a dollar value on the chunk of Cleveland alone that would have to coughed up. We are talking Trillions here overall.

I think the best form of reparations would be based specifically on communities that have been damaged by past injustices. So inside of all descendants of slaves, regardless of wealth getting reparations it should be focused on, say, areas of the Mississippi delta and rather than the bushies and Elizabeth Warren's getting reparations it should be aimed at some of the reservations in South Dakota.

Maybe some sort of fund given a certain amount to dole out to various worthwhile projects?

Your proposal seems sensible to me. It is certainly good and well that we really "do our thing", yet I fear this could become all too excessive. I guess that proposal is good in those points, though.

Were it not for the recent tuition reforms I would suggest education for impoverished areas like the Delta or the reservations you mention as well.

Projects can help to be true, but unless they contribute to some form of industry sprouting up or support such that is already existing, the benefits are less long term and more short term. Unless you mean a library or a school for instance, instead of a road or airport then the dynamics are different.

I'm personally of the opinion that for the federal government 1 million is not enough. What would everyone think about 150 million? Having said that I like the rest of the amendment.
