As of Friday yes. There was a small dip in the window that could be used to transfer the card and drugs, everything else was covered by a sheet of bulletproof glass between the outside and the pharmacist. Why should be obvious, but this is the first time I ever saw such a thing. I understand why and why pharmacies might be robbery targets, but it struck me as perhaps overkill considering this hospital literally has armed guards out front.

Is this not a standard practice?

There's at least one pharmacy with bullet proof glass in Bed-Stuy, but I've only walked by it.  Bullet proof glass is really only the standard for fried chicken places, liquor stores and pawn shops in Brooklyn.

What the ...? Bullet-proof glass in a pharmacy? This is not a goddam bank safe! Holy ...! The local pharmacy here is completely open, there is not even a door into the room where they have all the medicines...

No, but most (all?) of the ERs in Memphis have exit doors that are locked and will only be opened by a hospital staff member after payment or payment arrangements have been made.

I don't even know if pharmacies in my area have bulletproof glass or not ... but most likely not (almost no gun crime here).

I have never heard of a case in which a pharmacy has been robbed here.

I guess most of them have alarm systems though, like other stores.

Yes, but like with BRTD it was a pharmacy at an inner city hospital.  And no, it wasn't overkill unfortunately.  While I was there one time with my sister as she was having a test done (me being the designated driver) the hospital went on lockdown because someone with a gun had entered the building.

Sorry Flo but, lolflorida.

I actually have seen one such case at a Pharmacy in Brockton, Mass. Kind of a crime ridden war zone these days so a lot of places in that area practice this. Come to think of it, in my small boring mass town, the Hess gas station/convenience store operates under a bulletproof glass system after-dark, where you stand outside, and if you want to buy something from inside the store, the person inside will just run, get it for you, and slip it under the glass.

Though I don't think any of these places exist back in Vermont.

I wouldn't even think of such a place before checking this subject.

Seeing as how prescription drugs can fetch just as high a price on the black market as completely illegal narcotics and how many people are willing to rob for them for addictions you can see why. It's also common for pharmacists in the US to carry guns too. Things that'll make non-Americans more appreciative about where they live.

There's a CVS down the street from my school, but I can't remember if its pharmacy has bullet-proof glass or not. I've been to gas stations, liquor stores, and coney islands that have the glass, though.
Huh Coney Island is a place in Brooklyn. There is only one.

Yeah, and most gas stations in the bad neighborhoods (which I rarely go to) have this as well.
