Why were Fox New's Megyn Kelly's comments about Santa so freaking controversial? On some level I agree with her. You don't mess with a fictional character's canon just for the sake of political correctness. You can still celebrate Christmas in whichever way is best for you.

On another note, when she said Jesus was a white guy, it's a completely different story because Jesus was in all probability, a brown Middle Eastern man and she's just ignoring history.

Megyn Kelly mentioned that Santa is based off of St. Nicholas of Greece, whose facial reconstruction looked like this when created:

Obviously white.

Are we seriously resorting to classifications of race used by Nazis and late-19th century nativists in order to discredit something a Fox News anchor says?

They were controversial because you know what she's getting at and the nerve in white America she's trying to strike, and it has nothing to do with St. Nick's history or the classification of Greeks.  Fox pulls this dangerous trick a lot and people have every right to call them out on it.

I don't think it was "controversial" as much as it was insightful. What you had was a conservative commentator expressing a knee-jerk reaction of outrage at the mere concept of a black Santa Claus without actually stopping to think through why that should even bother them, and then  proceeding to spout nonsense in an increasingly flustered manner when pressed to articulate a rational defense of their position. It was a nice condensed example of the thought process underlying faux conservative outrages over wholly manufactured controversies.

The idea of Santa Claus having a set 'canon' is comical.

It is, and it's not even what Fox is getting at.  They constantly try to elicit reverse-racism nonsense in their viewers and it's disgusting.

Is this the kind of thing that constitutes American "political debate" these days? If so, it's a sign that things are going well in this country, since we have no real issues to talk about, apparently.

This was one of the most hilarious little subplots in politics in recent years. Don't forget that it all started with a pundit calling for Santa to be replaced with a Christmas Penguin.

I don't know if this is a Southern peculiarity or something, but black Santas in the mall or parades or wherever are common enough not to be notable or surprising.

Jesus was no less white than any other Jewish person is. If he were alive in 1960s America, he'd be able to vote, use public facilities in the South and attend most private universities, but would probably be too "ethnic" to get a membership at the local country club.

It is refreshing to read a post like this. I'm so sick of political correctness that has gone berserk nowadays and the occasional accusations of racism.

The only place where this is a big deal is here with your lot and your mythical war on Christmas. But please, keep it up.

Faux outrage  is growing increasingly irrational on the left right.  Every word that comes out of someones mouth now that isn't is PC is considered some secret systemic reverse-racism against white people or something.

Example: feigning outrage over the mention of a black Santa Claus.

I guess it's controversial because folks like this:

Is 'subhuman' a racial slur now?

If you even disagree with a black person, then you're apparently racist in the Obama Age. *rolls eyes*

don't like the idea that
...black Santas in the mall or parades or wherever are common enough not to be notable or surprising.
