I'd assume that he'd win some southern states if he was the nominee that year.

He might have done better than McGovern, winning AL, MS, and maybe GA, SC, and NC.

Nixon might have been the first Republican to win DC and I'd expect MA to go to him.

The election may have had some somewhat important long-term effects, as well, since Nixon's "Southern Strategy" and "states rights" ideas would have been much less significant. Naturally, Nixon would still have won in a landslide.

Presumably based on the fact that Wallace did win Michigan and Indiana in the primary. Ironically, though, this is because the "Southerners" in those states were still mainly conservative Democrats, the Midwestern types leaned Republican. Blacks will not vote for Wallace.

I agree with thefactor, except Mass and DC will go for Nixon, becasue of voter apathy.

Wallace only weakened certain places and I was pretty nice to Wallace.  This is the better looking outlook for Wallace.

Kennedy makes an independent run with Scoop Jackson as his running mate. He wins Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, and Minnesota.

Nixon wins the rest, and wins the election.

Not really, he is a contender, but not likely.  He had his shot in '00.  I went to a website.  And it showed possible candidates in '08.  So I picked the most Conservative and most Liberal off the list.  I doubt either party will vote for a Moderate.  The ones with stars are the farthest Right or Left.

Well, yes, but Kucinich received about 1% of the primary vote in 2000 if I recall.  The party isn't going to nominate a Congressman, and Kucinich is even more liberal than the vast majority of primary voters.

Nixon was going to win a landslide of historic proportions in 1972 regardless of who the Democratic nominee was.  A weak presidential candidate like Wallace would further strengthen Nixon's already tremendous lead.   What became known as the Watergate Scandal was not even heard of by 99.99% of Americans before the 1972 election.

There is no way that any states outside of Alabama and Mississippi would give their electoral votes to Wallace, at one time an avowed racist and segregtionist, although by 1972 was trying to reform his name.

Not even dependable Democratic states like Massachusetts and Rhode Island would have gone for Wallace, and for the first time in history, I belive DC would have gone Republican.  There is no way the predominantly African American voters in DC would give their votes to Wallace.
