Broken down by party now because of the reason for this comparison.

A BRTD poll about cites that doesn't include one with horrible weather? I never thought I would see the day. Anyway, Austin (R), although I would really be fine with either.

Well they both have crap for weather, but Austin has culture and one can breathe in it.

Bakersfield lacks any flare and it can get pretty smoggy, and the agriculture makes it smell bad. And finally, it has probably the worst Summer weather in the whole country.

Isn't Bakersfield one of the dullest places on Earth?

Austin, of course.  I think Democrats really overestimate how much Republicans are against living in a "liberal" area.  Bigger areas tend to have much more to do and more fun.  They also tend to attract/require academia types, ethnic minorities and lower-income/low-skill workers, all of whom typically vote Democrat ... I'll take the trade off.

Probably Austin, since my mom lives there.  But I'd be happy with Bakersfield, too.

Bakersfield does have horrible weather.  Anyway to answer the question, I know people from Bakersfield and they wanted to get the hell out as soon as possible (and they're republicans).

Austin, TX.

Asking whether to live in texas or california is like asking to be employed or unemployed, California's economy is a wreck and bakersfield isnt immune to a bad statewide job market. Plus too much gun grabbing in california. High gasoline taxes and crap and trade regulations in cali will screw over anybody in any bracket of income. So definitely Austin.

Austin hands down.

Bakersfield is a city you stop in for gas and/or fast food. It's also pretty damn awful.

...Bakersfield has a lot of "Bible-thumpers." Probably moreso than Austin.

Austin, TX. I'd at least not be living in California.
