It's an old one but it's not been done for a while. Wikipedia is your friend

Here's where you will find box office details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lists_of_box_office_number-one_films_in_the_United_States

US Number One Song - The Reflex - Duran Duran
UK Number One Song - Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Box Office Film - Ghostbusters.

Three classics, but I feel old Sad

US film: Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (would have been the Police Academy if I was born three days later, so I guess that's okay...)

The movie was "A Fistful of Dollars"  (from the link you posted)

The song was "Ruby Tuesday" by the Rolling Stones  (from Billboard Magazine weekly "Hot 100")

The movie and the song are both still good, in my opinion.

Adding fiction bestsellers is probably a good idea. Mine was (ugh) The Bridges of Madison County.

US Movie: Young Guns (Never heard of it)
US Song: Roll With it - Steve Winwood (Ditto)
UK Song: The Only Way is Up - Yazz and Plastic Population

Some people here are so young they disturb me.

EDIT: Just noticed that about after I was born David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers was Number one for one week. Which is 'seriously wtf?' given that it is hard to think of more audience unfriendly movie (Btw, it's outstanding. Go see it asap).

Adding fiction bestsellers is probably a good idea. Mine was (ugh) The Bridges of Madison County.

The Aquitaine Progression by Robert Ludlum - about an ex Vietnam War fighrter pilot, who is chosen to thwart a cabal of former generals bent on world domination!

Sounds horrible...

From Wiki:

The Generals:

Erich Leifhelm, a former Field Marshal from Nazi Germany, who ingratiated himself with the West after the defeat of Hitler.

Chaim Abrams, a tough-as-nails sabra, a hero to Israeli independence.

Jacques-Louis Bertholdier, a hero of the French Resistance who revels in his past as an assistant to De Gaulle.

Jan van Headmer, a South African general known as the "slayer of Soweto."

George Marcus Delavane, a bloodthirsty U.S. general from the Vietnam war.

So Israeli, Nazi, Afrikaaner, Gaullist and mad Viet Nam vet... Tongue
