Shoot first, ask later. That's the direction in which it's scarily going.

As much as I dislike Tasers, and absolutely dangerous to the heart and nervous system as they are, I guess they are preferable to pulling out a pistol and blasting away.

Just take all guns away from police. A couple more of them might get shot by criminals each year, but the amount of innocents summarily executed by these thugs will drop considerably and more than make up for it.

And he was supposed to know that because?  While he was mistaken about the gun, I don't see where, assuming that what is happen is as was described in that article that he should be considered criminally culpable.  After all, he certainly did have drugs on him, and it is not at all uncommon for drug dealers to be armed.  Of course, without our idiotic war on drugs, the circumstances here would never have occurred.

We haven't really gotten a full breakdown of the incident from start to finish. It seems to pick up in media res, with the victim running away from the police without us finding out how the police had stopped him, identified themselves, etc. I'm reserving judgment before I find out more about that part of things.
