in any year,  but failed to win that Presidential nomination, who are the ones you would most liked to have seen win that Presidential nomination?

For me, Governor George Romney of Michigan for the Republican nomination in 1968 or Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York for the Republican nomination in 1968.

Fred Harris would have been an above average Democratic presidential nominee.

Thank you TNF.

Yes, Fred Harris was a capable, dedicated, and hard working public official.

Bob Taft would've been interesting. I really think he could've won in '52, albeit by a narrower margin than Ike. Thus, D's keep Congress.

Edit: and of course, he'd die soon afterwards Sad

1908: Robert La Follette
1912: Robert La Follette
1916: Robert La Follette
1920: Robert La Follette
1924: Robert La Follette (cause why not oust Coolidge from within his own party?)
1948: Claude Pepper would've been interesting, but not sure I'd rather him than Truman.
1952: Estes Kefauver on the Democratic Side, Wayne Morse on the Republican.
1956: Estes Kefauver
1960: Humphrey, but with hindsight, I'm glad JFK won it.  Nixon would've won had Humphrey been the nominee.
1968: RFK
1976: Morris Udall or Birch Bayh.
1980: Ted Kennedy
1992: Tom Harkin
2000: Bill Bradley
2004: Howard Dean
