The Chinese Communist Party is currently investigating several former high-ranking members for corruption, including the former Security Minister Zhou Yongkang who was just arrested a few hours ago for corruption and selling out information to foreign powers. This follows the arrest, trial, of life-imprisonment of former star Bo Xilai who was widely expected to be promoted to the federal level before his downfall.

Do you think the Xi administration's campaign against corruption is a genuine attempt to solve the issue, or is it just Xi Jinping getting rid of rival faction members/former rivals to consolidate his administration's power over China?

Both, but I approve because Zhou Yongkang was/is an a-hole. Hu Jintao never really had control and as a result he wasn't able to do anything except watch posts be sold to the highest bidder. Xi is trying to push through some reforms and consolidating power is a prerequisite to actually doing anything.

It's both.  Tamping down on corruption is essential to the long term interests of Xi Jinping, of the Chinese Communist Party, and of China itself.  Now that isn't to say he won't be applying a finer-toothed comb to his rivals.  After all, power does have its perks.

There is a "Hundred Flowers" element to this.

Both. Corruption presents a considerable cost to the economy, and, it happens that many corrupt people happen to in the way of the sorts of policies Xi wants to impose.
