I feel like even Mike Beebe in a good year for Dems loses to Boozman by 5-10 points. Then again, my timeline has Martha Coakley run for Senate in New Hampshire, so some distance from reality is good.

State Rep. Mike Miller (R).

Mica is a place holder at SoT until Bill Shuster completes his 6-year term as Chair of the House Transport Committee.

Oh okay. It might be a bit biased, but Brodeur would be more likely to take his spot.

Ryan-Price Omnibus Fiscal Reform Act Passes House

Today, the House passed the Ryan-Portman Omnibus Fiscal Reform Act, a measure created by House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan and House Budget Chairman Tom Price with help from Senator Rob Portman and President Kasich. The bill includes progressive indexing of Social Security, gradually raising the retirement age to 68, a five-year inflation-adjusted freeze on discretionary spending excluding education and veterans's affairs, and comprehensive tax reform. The bill passed the House with a few moderate Democrats joining with the Republicans, which gives the President hope for it to pass the Senate.

Navy SEALs Assassinate Abu Omar al-Shishani

Today, the White House announced the assassination of Abu Omar al-Shishani, known as "Omar the Chechen," the field commander of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Apparently, a drone search in Syria found an inhabited cave, and the President, on the advice of the Secretary of Defense, searched more, finding al-Shishani. A team of Navy SEALs, Squad Team Six, performed Operation Blacksmith, taking out al-Shishani. President Kasich has hailed this as a "victory for freedom." This has caused his poll numbers to leap.

President Kasich Approval Rating
Approve: 52.6%
Disapprove: 42.5
Net: +10.1%

President Kasich, Speaker Scalise and Environment Chair Inhofe? Shield yourselves. Undecided

I'm really curious myself to see how John Adams of all people got the GOP nom. in Ohio. There's a deep GOP bench in Ohio who could give Brown a run for his money, though Adams is a far-right loon aligned with Zawistowski and would likely blow it. Tongue

I like the timeline though. Definitely some interesting match-ups and unexpected results. Keep it up!

Ryan-Price Omnibus Passes Senate, Signed By Kasich

Today, the Ryan-Price Omnibnus Passed the Senate and was signed by President John Kasich. Crafted by House Committee Chairs Paul Ryan and Tom Price, the bill includes progressive indexing of Social Security, gradually raising the retirement age to 68, a five-year inflation-adjusted freeze on discretionary spending excluding education and veterans's affairs, and comprehensive tax reform. The bill passed in the Senate by a vote of 60-40, with Senators Joe Donnelly, Joe Manchin, Mike Beebe, Chuck Schumer, Claire McCaskill, and Heidi Heitkamp voting in favor.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Dead, SEALs Get Second Leader In Two Years

For the second time in as many years, the Navy SEALs have found and killed another ISIL leader, this time, their "Caliph," Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. In a primetime address to the nation, President Kasich said that "This victory for us has crippled ISIL, and we will begin the process of wiping them out fully." As such, President Kasich's approval ratings are back at 53-43.
