Doris Bures (SPÖ)Sad

Currently, the President of the Austrian Parliament.

Irmgard Griss (ÖVP)Sad

Former Austrian Supreme Court judge and its President. Currently in the news because of the "Griss Commission", which she leads. The Griss Commission recently exposed how amateurish the Austrian government handled the privatisation of the HYPO bank - which is now a multi-billion € grave and burdening taxpayers.

Josef Moser (FPÖ)Sad

Currently, the President of the Austrian Court of Audit. Has been mentioned by FPÖ-leader Strache as a "candidate that he would back for President, even if he runs as an Independent" recently.

Alexander Van der Bellen (Greens)Sad

Former Green Party leader between 1997-2008 and currently Commissioner of the City of Vienna for Universities and Research. Professor and former dean for social sciences and economics at the University of Innsbruck. Likes to smoke and read comics.

Hans Peter Haselsteiner

Founder of a big construction company, and his net worth is a billion or so. Formerly a member and MP of the Liberal Forum (LIF) and now a NEOS-member and financial supporter. Also a philantropist, who funds projects against homelessness.

Griss, who previously ruled out running for Prez in 2016, is now thinking about it (but only if SPÖ and ÖVP back her as a joint candidate):

http://www.krone.at/Politik/Hofburg-Kandidatin_Griss_Waere_achtes_Weltwunder-Krone-Interview-Story-432795

Griss would be the first female President here. Of course, SPÖ and ÖVP have always presented their own candidates in an open election so far and never a joint one ...

Sounds like ÖVP would be the place for me. Seeing as Griss sounds qualified, her.

Moser too (is this not an italian name ?)

The last name "Moser" is a typical Austro-Bavarian name.

Maybe there's an Italian "Moser" too, but who knows ...

Ah, ok.

Never heard of him, but apparently a cyclist.

According to Wiki, he's born in South Tyrol - which means it's not uncommon that he has an Austro-Bavarian last name (probably one of his Italian ancestors married someone from Südtirol).

Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass about cycling.

Full of doping.

As said above, it's an Italian name as Wierer, Runggaldier, Perathoner, Hofer, Innerhofer, Windisch et al. are Italian names : Südtiroler ones.
