It's hard to imagine the sort of Democrat that would have a chance in LA-4, given it's a 59-40 Romney District. Yes, Edwards narrowly carried it, but he was running against an adulterer.

Someone white, nonliberal and personally popular (like former mayor Hightower). Something like that. But black is, surely, "no no"

NC-01/12: Well, this is quite something. CD's 1 and 12 have been struck down as racial gerrymanders by a three-judge USDC. The districts must be redrawn by November 19th.

Courts are just as partisan as anything else these days.  Every Democratic court's current pet project is to attack our districts.

Did it ever occur to you to ask why? I have to admit, your username does not lie. You are so overwhelmingly partisan about this stuff that you seem to give your party a free pass whenever it comes down to anything that might make them look corrupt.

Gerrymandering (which is partially natural due to Democrats packing into cities) helps the people, as it allows most people to be represented by people who share their values.

So, according to you, every person in North Carolina outside of the three carefully and ugily drawn VRA districts is a partisan republican like yourself? Oh my god you are terrible.

This is actually a pretty good point.

Really? Under that great gerrymandered map, my family and I were/are represented by Bob Pittenger, who doesn't really "share our values."

As Republicans hold 77% of the House seats there, its a real wonder that NC is such a swingy state overall! You'd think that 77% of people would vote for the Republican candidate who shares their values! Last election, I think he only got 50.4%...

Please tell me you're joking? See, he's only half-correct here. Gerrymandering is good for people - As in, the people of the party who did the gerrymandering. They will benefit greatly, while everyone else gets screwed (and in NC's case, big). I guess it's easy to forget that when the issue is reduced down to maps and numbers.

NC-02/13: Holding says he's moving ahead with his primary challenge against Ellmers, now that the new map will be used. The primary is June 7th.

Mark Walker (barely) still lives in the new 6th, and should still run there, but could feasibly move over the the 13th.

Poor Alma Adams will be running in the redrawn 12th, which is now solely in Mecklenburg County.

Holding vs. Ellmers will certainly be fun, but I'm sad that we have to wait so long. Miles, do you know for sure that the presidential and state/local primaries will still be held on March 15?

Also, I'm very happy to see that Adams is still running. Hopefully her location won't hurt her too much.

^ Yes (as of now), the only primaries that will be in June are Congressional level. There will also be no runoffs for the Congressional primaries, I'm guessing due to the unusual timing.

As of now, the calendar looks like. Absolute chaos.

NC-13: State Sen. Andrew Brock (R), who represents Davie, Iredell and Rowan counties is running for this open seat.

NC-13: The obvious Democratic candidate for this seat, though he hasn't said anything, is Ex. State Sen. Cal Cunningham. He briefly ran for LG in 2012 but decided against it, but his name has since been tossed around for other things. He has unique appeal in the rural areas, and if nothing else would be wave insurance.

It also sounds like Democrats are getting a candidate in Lafayette-area businessman Josh Pellerin.

Pellerin is running.

Essentially - old-school southern Democrat: relatively liberal (or, at least - moderate) on economy, and conservative on social issues, as i understand..

Three Dems sounds like a great recipe for a republican vs. republican runoff.
