Laura Capps won't run for her moms seat

Republicans have a non-joke candidate here too, so look out for this one now.

Both the Democrats currently in the race are arguably stronger than Capps would have been, Salud Carbajal especially. This just makes it less likely for two Republicans to slip into the general.

Also Republicans thinking that they'll pick up this seat in a presidential year is cute. Run a non-joke GOP candidate in 2018.

I mean, it's not very likely. But Republicans do need to spread their eggs into as many baskets as possible. This one has been close for a long time (even in Presidential years, where Capps ran behind the President), so it doesn't make sense to just not even try for it.

Blue Dog in name only. I am very amused by many "progressives" reaction on this: they are almost as predictable and as foolish as tea-partiers are.. "True believers", nothing more to say. And essentially - the same....

A blue dog and a Feinstein are crappy Senators wherever they are, but are especially bad if they represent California.

Has any polling been done for this race? If not, this should be done ASAP!

I suspect it will be Sanchez vs Harris.  Sanchez will try to appeal to moderates in the general election, as well as Hispanics.  I could see her winning if she campaigns well.

If she tries to play the Latino card too much, she will lose. She needs to do it covertly, and make sure it is not being printed in the LA times. In the top two primary, Latinos won't make up more than maybe 20% of the vote.

Although with the amount of Republicans that will be on the ballot, 20% might be enough to get a runoff spot. Obviously 100% of Latinos won't vote for her, but she could probably muster enough support for 20% of the vote if things go her way.

Yeah I agree. I like both Harris and Sanchez, and I don't think Sanchez really thinks she can win this... Hopefully it's just a trial run for 2018.

Very seriously considering a tactical vote for Rep. Sanchez in the open primary race to defeat winger-leftist San Fran lib Kamala Harris-- Particularly if no other Democrats run. Will lib establishment force Xavier Becerra in to try to split the Hispanic vote?

Loretta can very well win if she advances to the general with a coalition of moderates, Hispanics, and GOPers.

Realistically, Republicans have no shot at winning here - especially with the candidates who are running.  With multiple Republicans running, it is highly possible that the two Democrat candidates advance to the general.  And Republicans have to think tactically IF no other D's run.

Lol your going to disappointed. Sanchez is a left-liberal who similar to Gillibrand voted more centrist only because of her district. As Senator she'd be just as liberal as Harris and more so than Feinstein.

Aware of that. But Loretta didn't do this: http://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/SAN-FRANCISCO-D-A-won-t-pursue-death-in-cop-2767716.php.

And tactical voting is used only to defeat an outcome that's undesirable (Sen. Kamala Harris).

Loretta Sanchez is not a conservative or a substitute for a Republican. It's not like there is anything Republicans gain from voting tactically.

What do we have to gain by not voting tactically? Kamala is a left-wing ideologue with rumored presidential aspirations.

Aside from this election, it would perhaps finally mean the repeal of Prop 14 if the Democrat Party chosen candidate is defeated
