Garcetti is out, Steyer is thinking about it (CNN, WaPo). Issa is also out.

Villaraigosa is seriously considering a run.

I'll miss Boxer. We need our Jewish women senators.

I'm all on board for Harris. Honestly, as long as the seat is retained by a Bay Area Democrat, I'm fine.

Would love for a new Senator from SoCal, but I like all the northern candidates better. Villaraigosa is a sleezeball, Loretta can't compete with the Harris and Newsom juggernauts, Atkins is too low on the ladder, John Perez is a jerk. I like Eric Garcetti, but he needs to stay as mayor for now. Not a fan of Steyer being a one-issue candidate/Dem equivalent of the Kochs.

Steyer is just terrible. Argh.

The best democrat would be Harris or Newsom.

We could use fewer big-money types in politics, period.  I do like many of Steyer's environmental views or Bloomberg's on gun control, but at the end of the day they're both part of the same problem as the Koch's and Adelson.

I hope Matt Dababneh jumps in.  He's got good political skills and could serve in the Senate for a long time.

Loretta Sanchez is 50-50, depending on how the field shakes out.

According to this article the Republicans want Condoleezza Rice to run?  Interesting...

Wikipedia has a nice list of people mentioned as potential candidates and everyone who has declined to run:

The DSCC will definitely get behind one candidate, as will the state party. I expect the field to be cleared for someone before it gets close to the primary.

Has Scott Brown ever lived in or perhaps visited the state of California?

Carl DeMaio's name is on the wiki list, but I really can't imagine him running unless he goes as a sacrificial lamb of sorts.

Harris will clear the field she will scare away everyone else should she announce. Boxer will endorse her to seal the deal, I think this will be a snoozer in the end.

There are too many ambitious California politicians who have been waiting too long for that to be true.

Are you talking about the general? Because it's only top two. Unless you mean the primary, in which case there will probably be closer to 15 - 20 candidates.

I'm aware of how small the chances actually are, but it would be pretty hilarious if Republicans won in California, seeing as how it's pretty much impossible for them to win statewide in CA anymore.

Damn, I was hoping Boxer would change her mind and run again. Sad

Oh well, hopefully Harris runs. And hopefully Villaraigosa does not.

I am assuming due to the increased likelihood of a cluster****, unless there is something I am missing about Tony Villar...
