Just for fun, and because I'm incredibly bored, we should have a play-off of all 100 senators to find the best one.  I've arranged them all randomly into brackets of 10 senators each.  The winners of each bracket will face the corresponding winners of another bracket, and so on until we have a final.

I'll do one bracket at a time, to prolong the "fun".  Anyone can vote, and I think I'll keep the voting open until 24 hours after the last vote, for reasons best left unknown.

Please vote wisely.  Try and weigh up all the pros and cons of each senator in each match-up.  If you don't know that much about them, please try and read up on them before you vote.

OK, I'll start with...

ROUND 1: Bracket 1

1. Kit Bond (R-MO) vs. Paul Sarbanes (D-MD)
2. Patty Murray (D-WA) vs. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
3. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) vs. Max Baucus (D-MT)
4. Tom Harkin (D-IA) vs. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC)
5. Tom Coburn (R-OK) vs. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD)

(Note: the random allocation can lead to same-party match-ups, as in No. 3 here)

This is just going to involve a lot of straight-ticket voting, and ultimately, whichever party votes more will determine the winners.

I realized that, but I'm counting on at least a few people to see beyond party allegiances and vote for the senator who not only has what they consider to be the best politics, but is also an all-round 'good guy/gal'.

Anybody who knows all 100 senators well enough to be able to vote knowledgeably in this needs to get a life. Smiley

You're not a Democrat if you vote for Coburn.

How about if the winner in each match-up is the candidate who runs furthest ahead of the average number of votes for his party?

You're not a Democrat if you vote for Coburn.

I would encourage people like you to tell that to the probably 15-20% of Oklahoma Dems that voted for Coburn in the general election. (and many of whom probably voted for Henry too in the Gov. election in 2002)

And the leftists wonder why the Democrat party keeps losing elections.

I have said before that I despise Barbara Mikulski fully.  And though Coburn is a tad nuts on social issues, he's one of the few Democrats or Republicans left that actually believes in cutting spending from government and being a fiscal hawk (a revolutionary thought in this era).

So, he gets my vote.
