But is there really a need for a slot arrangement? Can't the speaker do his job alone just as good?

I doesn't have to be, so much as there has to be a defined set of obligations and responsbilities.

Well yes, I would say a defined set of rules surely is preferable. But then again, you probably know better from experience, so I won't disagree with you here Tongue

Well if you are asking for experience, failing to provide the blueprint is a big indicator of inactivity. Primarily, because without a defined role, there is little desire on the part of someone to map that out themselves and/or just end up doing nothing since they are the pathfinder anyway and thus have no standard for comparison. The path is thus failure.

Another major benefit to having an arrangement for slots is it means that no one in the senate is unfairly picked on due to their politics.

I vaguely remember the PPT retains one power which I used or nearly used this term, but I can't quite remember what that actually is.

Well, your points do make sense. Ignore my prior critiques, I'll follow you there. Tongue

But according to this all, and the current version of the bill, wouldn't it make more sense for us if the Speaker and the PPT would be different persons?

I guess that one's more clear.

Just this one I guess is still a bit tricky?

Is it just intended that the Speaker would be, or both?

Senators have 36 hours to object to bore's amendment

The president of the Senate would be the presiding officer for confirmation hearings so that can be left as it is.

Okay. Just a small nitpick, wouldn't one need the plural form here? Tongue I know, I of all people should not try to correct you, but well. :-P

Shouldn't this be an amendment? I don't think we can actually change the Constitution with a simple resolution...

I think it is now an amendment, despite what the title says.

My god, bore, your amendment has transformed this into a total mess. That was originally a resolution, now it is both a resolution and an amendment.

Getting rid of the PPT (an office for which there is no point) requires both the changes to the constitution and the resolutions passing at the same time.

Tomorrow I'll offer an amendment separating the PPT changes (which will need 2/3rds) from the other changes which will only need 1/2 of the votes.
