The entire point of TNF's poll was that people couldn't hide behind these wishy-washy options.

e: Am I the only one who finds the "Rape, incest, life of the mother, speak no evil" mantra creepy?

It's pretty weird how so many pro-life people think incest is grounds for abortion. You believe abortion is murder...yet you think it's OK to murder someone if they're the product of incest? That's basically an admission of support for eugenics (not saying that every pro-life person who supports an incest exemption is a conscious advocate of eugenics, but that is the logical implication of their beliefs).

I think they generally consider incest to be linked to rape in some way. It seems to be absent-mindedly tacked on to the rape exception in these views uncontestedly.

My views (and vote) are Option 8 + Personhood. Really, personhood is the entire point of being pro-life:  that the fetus is a person.

Option 1, for many reasons already stated, though of course the government shouldn't pay for it.

For my fellow Conservatives opposing abortion...

You do realize most people that get abortions are poor right. And forcing them to have children (which will put them on welfare) is extremely cruel and benifts NO ONE. Idk makes no sense, mad Republicans love to complain about the poor than tell them how to raise their kids yet won't give them welfare...

Because of course it's impossible to have a view on anything that isn't one of two extremes. Roll Eyes

Legal only to save the mother's life.  And as much as I would love to see a personhood amendment passed, it should be obvious by now that it's a losing battle.  Pro-lifers are better off supporting amendments similar to the one Tennessee passed this year.

Isn't the idea of the pro-life movement that fetuses are people so it's not about being cruel to the prospective parents, and they did it to themselves, and yadda yadda?

I'd take anything from #5 down, but option 7 is my position. I don't think personhood conflicts with this, though; self-defense and all.

Abortion on demand during first two trimesters is a sensible rule of thumb, though I can already think of a couple of exceptions that would make a great deal of sense. Personhood exists on a continuum rather than being something a creature either does or does not have. There is enough fuzzy gray space involved that I could be persuaded to shorten or lengthen the window of eligibility for on-demand abortion with information pertaining to mental capabilities (or lack thereof) at different stages of fetal development. The mother's life is, of course, more valuable to me than that of the unborn.

Where's the option for "Federally-subsidized Abortion on Demand"?

Not trolling.  I'm pro-choice, but I don't see why a pro-life person should be forced to subsidize abortions via their taxes...

Option 3 (basically, completely pro-choice until viability). After that point, I don't necessarily oppose regulation. However, I do believe the health/life of the mother should always take precedence over the embryo/fetus.

Fwiw, I can completely understand the pro-life position. However, the notion that an unborn fetus should or could ever take priority over the mother is something that is very disturbing to me. In other words, I cannot fathom the last two options whatsoever.

I guess that means we can't have a tax-payer funded military, since some Americans are pacifists
