It's quite a simply effort of mine, the "An Actual End to Imperialism Act" is unpractical, unrealistic and it's making many foreign policy efforts impossible, as it seriously harms the Pentagon and doesn't allow for any type of weapons sales, not even to our closest allies or to those that need it, like the Kurdish rebels trying to survive the onslaught of ISIS.

Last time around we had a clear majority supporting this bill, only to be blocked by DemPGH. I feel now is the time to rectify that situation and strike down an unpractical bill whose only purpose is to tie our own hands and make things harder for any administration that holds the White House.

As I understand this, does this bill not just ban private arm sales? So should not our government still be allowed to sale weapons?

That was the bill passed last year.
I will vote to repeal it.

I quite agree with Lumine, this bill is unpractical, unrealistic and I believe Atlasia should have a place in the world. Interventionnism isn't inherently bad.

I would still very much like it if I got an answer to this...

Personally, I think it bans Atlasia to sell weapons too

Sorry for not answering before, Cranberry. While technically the bill speaks of private sale of weapons, we have to remember that the Pentagon usually arranges contracts with private contractors, and one of the main arguments of Simfan regarding this bill when he was GM was that the original bill would also immediately end any contracts, leading to massive losses and potential lawsuits against the government.

It should be remembered that the arms industry supports about 250.000 jobs, many of which may already be destroyed thanks to this.

Lmao at the "Actual End to Imperialism" bill- Section 1, Section 3, then an unnumbered section referring to a nonexistent Section 6.

Amendment offered in the form of a substitute bill:

[Quote]1. Section 3 of the Actual End to Imperialism Act is hereby repealed.
2. The Secretary of State shall publicly report all sales of weapons or military hardware conducted by the Atlasian government at least 72 hours before such sales are finalized.
3. Any such sale will not be finalized if at least three members of the Atlasian Senate submit an objection to the Senate within the requisite 72 hour period. Any potential deal that has received three valid objections can only be finalized if it is ratified via majority vote of the Atlasian Senate.
4. Any sale of weapons or military hardware conducted by the Atlasian Government that has been conducted pursuant to the specific and explicit instructions of enacted legislation shall be deemed to have been proactively ratified by the Atlasian Senate and shall not require any waiting period before finalization.

Okay, thank you, Mr. President.

I guess I support BK's amendment. It does away with all the problems mentioned, yet still gives the Senate an oversight of the process.

I'm inclined to think that the actual end to imperialism is such a mess that we should repeal the whole thing, and just add them back into this bill.

Good idea bore. I withdraw my previous amendment, and offer this amendment:

About my amendment:

This is why banning Atlasian-run foreign paramilitary training camps is a good thing.

This is why full transparency and explicit legislative oversight of international arms deals is a good thing.

Abstain,
This is still better than the current bill, but I would still prefer the repeal of this bill.

Nay

There's nothing wrong with the bill as is, unless of course you're a warmonger.

I think there are circumstances where arms sales are appropriate, which is why my amendment allows them to be conducted with Senate oversight. To use a historical example, the "Actual End to Imperialism" Act would have prohibited us from sending lend-lease shipments to support the defense of the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union defence against Nazi Germany in WW2. It also prevents us from selling our older naval vessels to other countries (no matter how peaceful the other country is) which IRL is a decent way to recoup some of the cost spent to build them

I don't see a problem with that. The US shouldn't have aided the British imperialists in a contest against German imperialists.
