People I'd vote for Jackson over: Pierce, Buchanan, A. Johnson.

@Shadow: Then you're out of luck.

So I'll go with the Populist, not the obstructionist everyone hated. Without Jackson, the basics of the Democrat (aka stop business from screwing everyone over) would be lost.

And frankly, he kept Clay and Calhoun from rising, that alone is enough for me.

Without Tyler...nothing significant happens

Hard to be worse than Tyler. (And yet, somehow, at least three other presidents in the quarter-century after him managed it.)

Is this even a question?  Regardless of how one feels about Jackson, he is easily one of the most important Presidents in American history. That alone makes him better than John "Without a Party" Tyler.

And for those who think Jackson being a genocidal tyrant made him worse than Tyler-fair enough, but remember that Tyler was the only President who later served in the legislature of the traitorous Slave Power.

Jackson, because as horrid a person as he was, he was a pretty good president.

Tyler, on the other hand, was terrible on both counts.
